I don't use Arena myself, but my experience in this tourney with people that do, is that their engine contantly fails to start automatically, when mamer starts the round. So beware...

I think everyone that requested an account should have one, now. Check your PMs!

Note that the latest WinBoard (http://hgm.nubati.net/WinBoard-ICS.exe for the installer) will allow you to walk through the PVs the opponent kibitzed to you. Just right-click them in in the engine-output window, and move the mouse up and down, keeping the right button pressed, to step through all positions between the current game board, and the very end of the PV.

You are encouraged to try this. (Although in blitz you can't study it at leasure, as the display is aborted when the opponent moves.)

I did not received a PM. But it seems the handle is now registred on the server. But I can't connect since I don't have the password.

Unfortunately the ICS mauls the mamer output by overwriting two lines of it with a prompt. As a consequence, Dirty's resuts will have to be reconstructed from the other lines. I am too tired to do that now, it is past midnight here...

Chenkho was an engine that happened to be on-line when the tourney started, and that I added by remote. It did not kibitz, though, and dsconnected after 3 games. "admicroMax" was Fairy-Max 4.8O (the slow gcc compile) run from an admin account on my (1.3GHz Celeron-M) laptop from which I supervised the tourney. This because my main machine (Q6600) was now running Joker and the NewEngine I have started writing.

Hi HG,

Thanks for running Jabba. I'm really pleased to see some points for once in online blitz!

Looks like it is slowly improving :D

"NewEngine" also had a good first showing....

Regards

Indeed, it was able to steal a point from ZCT. This version scores 60% against micro-Max, and 25% against Joker. But there is no check extension or LMR yet in thesearch, while the eval is material+PST only. I should be able to add some king safety and passer evaluation before the end of the week, and that should help a lot. (Especially against Joker, which mercilessly exploits these weaknesses.)

The final aim of this new engine is to have mobility evaluation, though. I want to include that in the differential eval, by making the engine aware of the mobility of each piece, so it can cheaply correct for the mobility changes due to capturing or taking away a piece. I want to do that in combination with a differentially updated attack map, so that it is also aware at any time which moves each piece is blocking, so it can cheaply add the mobility to these pieces when their moves are unblocked. Then the most expensive parts are generation and counting of the moves of the piece from its new location (but this should be a lot cheaper than doing a full move generation for all pieces), and blocking of slider moves. (But the latter happens only on non-captures, which are not very common, as they do not occur in QS.) So I hope the nps wll actually increase by this, compared to what I have now. (Staged move generation through a victim-by-victim 0x88 capture generator, and generation of non-captures by running through the piece list.)

Jabba behaved examplary: after adding it to the tourney by remote, i could leave it completely unattended for the rest of the tourney. 8-)
