Hello,

Thanks for version 41. Another idea, Anyway I just was wondering if there is some way to make possible the use of Hiarcs Opening Books inside of the Banksia GUI as a optional opening book choice.

Thanks in advance. :D

Thanks a lot for the report. I have been working on them

Did you log tournament games into a database? I have realised it (logging to a database) may cause some crashes and working on that.

  • New special functions for GPU engines, a user: 1) can mark engines as GPUs 2) can set up serially CPU cores for GPU engines which may be different from ones for none-GPU ones 3) get clever tournament concurrency: it auto arranges to make sure no more than one GPU game can be played at a moment but still maximize concurrency (Fig. 2)
That is an amazing feature ! No other GUI has this to my knowledge. Presumably the tournament would get to a point where it is only the queued GPU matches that remain, so all the games from that point would be concurrency 1 ? At that point the rest of the machine is freed up for other things if you have spare CPU cores.
Yes, you’re right. We can get some benefit of concurrency only when there are both GPU and non-GPU games, but not only GPU ones.

I think Winboard and Banksia GUIs are the only ones now that are in active development.
I think the situation is much more optimistic than that. I have seen already some chess GUIs have been updated recently, for example: Eschecs, Cutechess, PyChess, Nibbler… They are even more active than WinBoard (the latest official version 4.9.1 of WinBoard is actually 4 years ago).

For Banksia GUI, I proud it is likely the one has received the biggest number of ideas, suggestions, bug-reports and encourages from users (thanks all again) :D . It also has the highest frequency of releasing since the time between two versions was averagely 12 days and all releases so far have contained new features :D

Thanks for the idea!

I think it’s hard since Hiarcs books are commercial and their format is a closed source.

Thanks for the excellent program. I have noticed two issues in the set-up screen (linux). Those were already present in 0.39 I believe.
  • When changing the name of an engine, by default a copy is created. The original needs to be removed manually afterwards. Adding a rename function and allowing a rename without duplicating seems a better option to me.
Thanks a lot for the feedback!

By design, a user can edit an existing engine from Settings just by double-clicking on the field he wants and change its name, path, working path... without making a copy. However, I make recently the mistake to remove the editable flag of that table. I have fixed that for the next release

  • When changing a UCI engine to a WB engine, the UCI configuration options remain. I have to manually remove them from the json file.
Keep up the excellent work.
If you want to change an engine from using protocol UCI to WB, it is better to remove it first. You don't have to remove it manually. Just select the engine and click on the button with the icon minus (-) on top. After all, select WB protocol from Add Engine dialog.

Wow, so huge HDD!!! Is that a SSD one? I have no patience to download all Syzygy 7 men anyway ;)

If you could help, please test BSG with adjudication of 7 men. I have never tested that ability myself. Thanks

Latest BanksiaGUI misbehaves under iOS 14.5 on an iPhoneSE:

Image
-it does not rotate, so certain things are not readible
-is there an option to specify which information (depth, nodes, time) get's printed/inserted in the pgn and in what form (ms vs seconds, nodes vs knodes..?

Image

-Options and Level menus are borked, in the sense that they slide to the red line and automatically back (within a second or so). If one is comically fast enough, one can change the Level (playing against comp/etc).

Wishlist: please print/insert in pgn also the thinking time for the human side whilst playing against the comp (in min:ss format preferably).

Thanks+Greetings

It's a hard disk drive, the old fashioned one.

Of course i'm going to test it, as long the adjudication parameter don't overlap or becomes the egtb path for engines during search. This was a issue i reported some time ago, you probably remember that one. I wanted that the adjudication path function solely for egtb adjudication.

Suggestion: Can we change the analysis output to Standard Algebraic so that it matches the notation or set it to whatever is selected under 'Move list/PGN' in settings?
