Hi,
Does this mean it still calculates on the mate in one ? Does it see the underpromition to bishop ? Does it contain games from the future in the high quality database ? Did they fix the 290 moves draw rule ? Does the engine still calculate positions with pawns on 1st/8th rank (in Fritz 10 GUI) ?
Does it still calculate positions with multiple kings, if yes you might try solving those positions:
http://www.milanvel.net/pub/FairyKings.pdf (again in the Fritz 10 GUI where this works, as serious testers know.
Does it also calculate positions with no kings at all ?
Fruit for instance will tell you the position is illegal, like any serious engine should do.

Why don't the Arena people actually go to the chess shop and get themselves a copy of Fritz (and run test positions themselves) instead of conducting a guerilla campaign on the web? Even journalists when reviewing a new programme actually go and buy it, and run tests themselves.

Then you should not be conducting tests and reviews on something you don't actually have. These Arena fanboys were posting "bugs" in Fritz 12 before it was released and telling us what was in Fritz 13 and Fritz 20.

because I want to know if they listen to their customers before releasing version 12 with bugs known since version 6.
But you as a "serious" tester I am sure you can tell us, but not saying anything is telling us more than you think.
You see even people who have the program won't tell you at least one of those bugs has been fixed. Guess why. Because it hasn't been fixed.
Why should I buy such a crap ?

Hi,
Obviously not. Or do you want to tell us that Frtitz won't save a mate in one. Imagine now a mate in 2, as a serchtree grows exponentialy you all can imagine how long it will take to solve such a difficult problem.

This is as usual a LIE. I asked about Fritz 12 and its bugs after it has been released and we only republisehd our previous bug reports (Fritz 6-Fritz11) sent to ChessBase and asked whether anything has been fixed. This is more than legitimate as we want to know BEFORE we buy, we don't like surprises.
It seems nothing has been fixed. Not that we wonder.

There is another possibility that it is dependent on the hardware.
I guess that Fritz12 on hardware of today needs 8 minutes but if you wait for the hardware to improve you may find(maybe in 2020) that computers are 240 times faster(even for single processor engines) so Fritz12 is going to need only 2 seconds.
