Ryzen 3700x build

I really want the 32-core or even 64-core Threadripper, but the 32-core is still scarce and the 64-core not out yet.

Meanwhile I have built a Ryzen 3700x system. This will be mostly for running Arasan on ICC:

MSI B450 Tomahawk Max motherboard
CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 64GB (4 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2400
SAMSUNG 860 EVO Series M.2 500GB SSD
MSI Gaming GeForce GT 710 2GB Low-Profile Graphcs Card
Fractal Design Meshify C Black ATX Mid Tower Case
couple of extra Noctua fans



This is a "conservative" system - older but solid MB, no overclock, no high-spec RAM, etc. Low-end graphics card because I am not going to run any NN engines on it. This is the easiest build I have done in a long time. Everything just worked the first time.

This 8-core box gets about 70% of the NPS of my 24-core Xeon 2690v3.

You could get by with less. My engine allocates hash in terms of powers of two, so 64G physical RAM allows at least 32G hash. You could use most of that hash in a long time-control game.

Nice system, You don't need massive hardware. Unless you are just a freak like most of us here. I still would have put at least a RTX 2060 Super in the mix. It gives you the option of running NN at a good speed.... And I always like the build the most flexible general use system.

Nice build - the 64 core threadripper alone is $3999 when it comes out - double the 32 core Threadripper $1999 list price - but the current lowest price out there is $2100 - it will come down eventually.

I recently bought a Ryzen 3 3300 desktop. I am amazed at the boot up time speed and the fact that it runs very cool. I cant hear the fan. Never overheats.

I just bought a 3970x for $1999 yesterday, so 2100 is not the lowest price, nor did I find it hard to find more than one place that claims "in stock."
