The most ridiculous Opening Book ever, what is your opinion?

Post by Chessqueen »

Honestly for the TCEC to do something like this, they might as well start a Non Castling match among the best 6 engines instead of boring the hell out of people who pay a monthly fee.

This is a handicap position, two bishops vs two knights. With the first move advantage as well, it is about a half pawn. I covered this position in my new book, where I concluded that White's advantage is not enough to win with correct play (probably). I think it's just about ideal for TCEC, they want positions that are close to winning but not actually winning, so the results will be on the edge of a win or a draw. A pure no castling tournament would just produce 90%+ draws. White needs a real advantage beyond the first move to avoid this fate.
