Maybe you copied your stockfish commits from someone else too?
I will look into that.

Because you have to have two clicks for "compliance"?Sopel wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 7:33 pmThe distribution of the executable on the previously linked site does not follow the license. Sopel has discovered a new toy. If all the clone authors ignore him, as they should, then no one will point out the Stockfish Project’s own sloppiness with complying with the copyright provisions of the GPLv3.

I hope it is becoming clear to those not in the know that the GPLv3 is a very restrictive license.
It certainly is not free, and while you can see the code you cannot take it.
(except of course if you open up your own code -which clearly Eman author does not want to do)
lesson to learn: Beware of open source

I have to disagree. If you are planning on distributing closed source software that incorporates GPL software, like Eman, then it doesn’t permit that use.frcha wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 8:27 pm I hope it is becoming clear to those not in the know that the GPLv3 is a very restrictive license.

If, on the other hand, you are planning to sell a service or data that relies on GPL software, like RedHat or ChessBase, then it’s perfectly fine (though some here may consider that immoral).
Just because the stockfish fans are confused about the GPL doesn’t mean the rest of us have to be.

From the charter -
Once a member gains access to the message board, he may read all messages and post new or response messages with the proviso that these new or response messages:
1. Are, within reason, on the topic of computer chess
2. Are not abusive in nature
3. Do not contain personal and/or libelous attacks on others
4. Are not flagrant commercial exhortations
5. Are not of questionable legal status.

90% of coding is debugging, the other 10% is writing bugs.

You are not confusing one meaning of “legal” for another, I hope.
So the Stockfish lawsuit against ChessBase is of questionable legal status, as it has not been decided, whereas suggesting a scheme to commit fraud is of questionable legals status as in “criminal.” I hope you understand the distinction.

The context of this thread is not Chessbase but authors that break the law and thus the charter, not making public the source code.dkappe wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 9:09 pmYou are not confusing one meaning of “legal” for another, I hope.
