There is no excuse for this not to be fixed for this long. Well, I say the hell with talkchess. There are other chess sites that don't have problems like this.
The hosting service is prejudiced against cyber-attack source locations. Their solution to block an entire region is clumsy but easy for them to do.

Please don't accuse Talkchess or Your Move Chess & Games of prejudice out of frustration or a lack of information. Please don't assume someone hates you or is singling out populations due to "prejudice", simply because you can't access the site or haven't been able to do so for a long time.

The VPN solution has been proposed for people in this situation. TOR browser can VPN-ize your web-surfing experience and it's FREE. It also adds security to your browsing.

Again, please stop making ugly accusations that are false.

This does not solve the problem. Unrestricted read-only access to the forum would. Talkchess has been created on the assumption that everybody can read stuff posted here. Chessprogramming Wiki acted on this assumption and now is screwed. I would never join this forum in first place, had it been a walled garden. So stop pretending that forcing users to use VPN is acceptable.

What is your proposed solution?

IIRC the correct term for what is happening here is "public domain hijacking". Information on this forum was freely accessible, now it is not.

While Germany was hit by the IP ban as well, I was using https://hide.me/en/proxy as free and easy workaround. I was also offered to get my IP unbanned, but since my provider changes the IP every 24 hours, as is common in Germany, that wouldn't have been useful.

Of course, that isn't an actual solution, only a workaround.

Mirror of a forum, but with edition, logging in and any possibility of changing from outside disabled. Preferably left under the current address, so that links at external sites stay in place, with editable forum at a new address.

A pretty girl in a white dress once said, "Who's going to pay for this mess?"

Then find a programmatic solution that creates two forums, active and passive, from one database. Should be one database reference plus commenting out some scripts. The problem is not that there is no solution, but that nobody is trying to solve anything. Also, ask some real admins about Docker, compartamentzation etc. Stuff that should be settable in one day.

@Guenther, you have a nice crawler over there! I have one friend who can investigate options of putting at least programming part of the forum somewhere, so stay in touch.
