Great program to play against, though I wonder why it would amaze the public.

I manage to beat it with the default setting:

Hello man !

Yea Chess is a well-known chess app. coming from years. Its origins were disscussed in a well-known chess forum years ago. The conclusion : a native transcription (with GUI) of a well- known chess engine ! Plays very strong, of course. Any wonder to post here Yea vs.various utra-strong chess engines games and to edit the .pgn files !

Are you referring to this post by yourself?

Does anybody know the rating of this little engine?

Hi Ajedrecista !

Was a disscussion in mylivepages.com epoch chess forums. I remember also a disscussion in immortal forum (the old one , not the actual blue forum). The old members (in both  ) know very well !
And Mr.Alex Naumov still works in Canada (Toronto). Sounds familiar ?

Cheers,
SilvianR

I have not found anything of mylivepages.com; OTOH I only found the following info of 28th June, 2009 (no discussion) at immortal223 (the old ImmortalChess):

Ваши ссылки / Chess stuff (продолжение) (Raw view).

AFAIK Naumov is Serbian but Naum played/plays under Canadian flag. Sorry but I fear I do not fully understand you.

Very nice indeed, just played three games against my engine and the result was 1.5-1.5 :)
Since the second game I compensated for the fact that Yea (4.84 is the version I tried) automatically uses all available cores, both games were 5 sec/move,
ponder off, 64MB hash (guessed from YeaChess' memory usage), Yea played two games with black, one with white.
Unfortunetely it was difficult to play with black due to wrong board mirroring.
Can't tell much from just three games of course (a pity it's not available as standalone uci/xboard engine),
but my guess is if you have 4 cores you are facing an opponent of around 2900 CCRL (+- a lot :)

of course it is fun. it plays chess at different difficult levels (which is fun). but what makes it a sensation or even a revelation? I like that the program is very small but that's it. maybe it is the mystery of its sudden appearance some years ago?

there are some things I dislike about this program: the GUI is very (very, very) simple and it does not recognize 50 move- oder threefold repetition draws. furthermore it is not winboard or UCI compatible.

but maybe i'm just a little spoiled by all these high class engines an GUIs some awesome people offer us for free today :)
