Just noticed that since some of the Android apps now run SF4 that there is a slight decrease in n/s when compared to SF3. For example DroidFish now with SF4 running on a Samsung Galaxy Note II climbs only to 693kn/s also noticed the same effect on other apps that run StockFish.

Two questions

Post by Alex54 »

What is the chess program running on the iPad Air which gives those figures, please?
And what does it mean SF3 and SF4?. Stockfish 3 and 4?.
Thanks in advance.

The iPad Air just uses the standard Stockfish app, the latest version from app store is running Stockfish 4, SF is used as an abbreviation for StockFish.

Many thanks Alex Brown.
So the specific IOS App named SmallFish ( its Android nemesis would be DroidFish) is not involved in those figures.
But is the Stockfish 4.0 IOS version a 64 bit program?. Is it also MP, to get the maximum of the new A7 64 bit dual-core SoC?.
Excuse me for these questions, but IOS is terra incognita for me, as I will buy my first iPad in a few days and I want to be sure about some important items.

Any estimates how the Tegra 4 would do? I am in the market for a new tablet and am considering both the New Nexus 7 and the Tegra Note found here:

http://www.anandtech.com/show/7508/nvid ... e-7-review

Despite the lower resolution screen and the 1 gig of ram, I am intrigued by the inclusion of a micro sd card slot, the front speakers, and the apparently more powerful Tegra 4 chip in the Tegra Note.

i have 2 new results. first the china mobile Cubot One with 4x MTK MT6589T CPU at 1500 Mhz gives astonishing 568 KNPS.

Image

That is above the LG g2 and close to the Note3 from samsung, or the galaxy S3 (with exynos core).

for ~ <150 Euro you get a 4.7" china-mobile in the design of the HTC One,
with replacable battery and micro-sd-slot and HD Display and ~12 MP camera, 8 GB ROM, 1 GB RAM . IMO much mobile for the price and usage as chess-lab. Comes with 2 batteries and loudspeaker and plastic-backcover. Android 4.2.1. Be careful there are 2 versions, a slower one with MTK MT6589 (without the T running at 1.2 Ghz instead of the 1.5 Ghz of the "T"-version) is sold cheaper.

also an interesting mobile, the 4" Sony Xperia P, a mobile with Sonys "white magic display". it has 4 sub-pixels, not rgb but also a white subpixel !
So when showing bright screen instead of 3 pixels it only lights the white subpixel. it has an enormous bright screen with 873 cd/m².
I have never seen this somewhere before, an exotical 1 Ghz 2x core NovaThor-CPU and android 4.1.2.

Phones with Mediateks true Octa core starts appearing on the Web. The CPU packs 8 of these chess friendly cortex A7 cores clocked at 1.7ghz. If we do the math, 1000+knps should be easily attainable on this midranger processor.

So, here's the score of my brand new iPad Mini 2 Retina. Not surprisingly, it has about the same result as the iPhone 5S', as they share the same CPU frequency : 1.29 GHz (the iPad Air is clocked at 1.39 GHz) :
