Re: New AMD Ryzen™ Threadripper™ PRO 3995WX (Windows and Multithreading Problem)

It is probably advisable to Limit the number of threads in this case to 16 or 32 at most. Why would you want to limit a CPU with 64 physical cores to 16 or 32 threads? For hash clearing purpose only, not for search. Clearing fi 16 GB with 16 threads should be sufficiently fast. But the Threads vari...

that's why I'm waiting for the Zen-3 Threadripper, when it arrives I will ditch the 3970X.
I'm afraid Zen-3 Threadripper will not happen.
(Hmm, apparently there are leaks about an August 2021 release date, but what are the chances that the chips will actually be available...)

Re: New AMD Ryzen™ Threadripper™ PRO 3995WX (Windows and Multithreading Problem)

Does asmFish give higher nps with 128 threads? yes also Dragon by Komodo only Stockfish has no increment from 64 to 128 and really incomprehensible to me Ok, but the asmFish output you pasted here doesn't show its nps with 64 threads. When you run Cfish from the command prompt, do you get output li...

You should not use AVX2 on Zen 2 processors. advisable modern? AVX2 is fine on Zen 2 isn't it, it is just BMI2 that is slow ? I don't have Zen 2 so can't comment from experience. Yes, I quickly realised I had mixed up things. But 1 minute of exposure was too long for it to go unnoticed :-)

I think Stockfish already does what you want. Did you try running it with >64 threads?

(I assume you want the threads to be spread over groups.)

Re: Draw by 3 fold repetition...

Because SF prefers 0.00 over -0.01. How it chooses between 2 0.00 moves? First come, first served. An alpha-beta search does not even get to know that the second move is 0.00 and not <0.00. Depends on the implementation Not when it implements alpha-beta. I recall Rebel Decade used to be able to swi...

But also the system until now has been on day and night to play my Arena engine tournament... Good consumer SSDs with 500 GB allow about 300 TBW (terabyte written). If you have used up 14% of that, that's 42 TB. With 90 days of usage, that's more than 400 GB written per day, which is huge. There's ...
