Re: How many of you monitor your CPU temperature ?

I do. I had a hell of a time getting my 32-core Threadripper cool enough with air cooling. A big cooler + a lot of fans and it finally runs ok 24/7. It does still hit 80 degrees once in a while if the ambient temp is high. My main Windows desktop still is triggering the temp alarm though under load...

Re: configuring cloud computer for analysis with 7-piece tablebases

Thank you for this helpful reply. Do you have a sense of a good configuration for a system that benefits from the 7-piece Syzygy win-loss tables? I.e. the number of cores, the total RAM, whether GPUs are necessary? If your main concern is just tablebase access, you can query tablebases online (http...

You really do not want your CPU temperature higher than 75

Some of newer CPUs are less heat senstive, I thermal throttle the AMD 3970x to 80. No issues at all for 18 months , running at times 24x7 at full throttle.

Re: St. Louis Rapid & Blitz

Nakamura has shown some pretty amazing blitz skills when under pressure. Two games that stand out in my mind are his play with the black pieces ...

Re: Eman chooses to cease distribution to comply with GPLv3

I was referring to Srdja . People are leaving because of these type of postings. Indeed, this is a problem. But I don't think the postings themselves are the cause. These are just symptoms of the toxic environment that the chess-programming community has become. People seem to have grown completely...

Re: If you were ...

If you were Ubisoft, Ripstone, or Chessbase for example and looking for a chess engine to license for use in your next chess software project to release. Who would you be contacting? If I were the point man for Ubisoft or Ripstone, I think I would be trying to contact Jonathan Kreuzer (Slow...
