Re: Stockfish with new NNUE architecture and bigger net released

... You're right. This new try does not seem nearly so successful. Surely you can't be serious, unless you're defining "success" in some nonsensical way. I don't see how any rational person could come to your conclusion given the facts. Hopefully you're confused rather than arguing in bad faith. Th...

Re: OliThink 5.9.5 is very small

All speed benchmarks do vary each time a couple of per cent, even there is no other big process running. If the speed difference is not even measurable, it will not impact playing strength. That has to be statistical error noise. With equal hash size, the node counts etc. will be the same, or else ...

Is there a C++11 atomic equivalent to: __sync_synchronize() because that one is GCC specific.

Re: Stockfish with new NNUE architecture and bigger net released

Well stated, Dann! I see the Stockfish developers' latest work as validation that Albert Silver first had the correct methodology for NNUE architecture and net training. Chess engine progress is being made, and it's being done by following Albert's approach. Bigger really is better. :-) All the bes...

Re: OliThink 5.9.5 is very small

I'd draw a line where minimalism impacts robustness. For example, I'd also add error handling for calloc() and try half the allocation of the previous attempt if it returns NULL, or exit if even the minimum allocation (e.g. 1 MB) fails. Of course you have a point about this. But I have another issu...

Re: Stockfish with new NNUE architecture and bigger net released

I guess that there is a curve. Suppose you have some minimal number of neurons like seven. They probably won't play great chess no matter how much you train them, Now suppose you have one hundred trillion neurons. They can make really smart choices but will take very long to train and the calculatio...

Re: OliThink 5.9.5 is very small

Of course, any changes I make you can use without asking permission. IOW, you have my implicit permission to use any tweaks I ever make to Olithink. I am implementing now your code and there is something I don't understand: Using xboard I configured 1024 MB Hashsize, but xboard sends the following ...

Amazing that I can generate so many bugs with about ten new lines of code.

Re: OliThink 5.9.5 is very small

Thank you very much, Dann! May I use your code within the next version of OliThink, with some changes? Of course, any changes I make you can use without asking permission. IOW, you have my implicit permission to use any tweaks I ever make to Olithink. I looked at the code, and I think I left out in...
