what about using Shredderbases and SYZYGY Bases parallel ?
Are they both loaded into RAM?
Is it useful or do you prefer only SYZYGY?
I have a lot of engines installed. Is it possible to make an engine folder inside the GUI for 1CPU engines and use another one for 4CPU engines?
best
Werner
Both Shredderbases and Syzygy bases have the same functionality. You should use whatever you have installed. If you add both Shredder will use just one of them (I am currently not sure which).
You can only have one engine folder. But one of the minor changes in the new GUI is that it can now deal with more installed engines. (If I remember right it was your suggestion to change that).
SzG wrote:Stefan, could you tell us the changes and new features of the GUI?
The engine was a complete rewrite, but also the GUI got some new features.
Shredder comes with more than 1000 built-in chess puzzles, there is a feature to learn and play certain openings. You can practice some endgames and play handicap matches with move or material advantage.
A few new hires piece sets and boards where added and the design is more modern and nicer.
Some more minor features have been added.
And even though some believe that the GUI is without bugs, many small and some larger bugs have been fixed.

Shredder is Back and Better Than Ever...Aggressive..Dynamic 'Tactical'
Determined Chess....We Love Shredder!!
1. If both Shredderbases and syzygy are configured, will it switch to syzygy if it includes 6-man endgames while Shredderbases are only up to 5 men?
Yes, this should work.

2. I see engines folder is created under c:\Users\...\AppData\Local\ShredderChess\GUI13\Engines\. Can I use a different folder for them, e.g. the one I used with Shredder 12?

in around 470.000 games can be found on my Webpage or 1.100.000 games I am using the Shredder Classic GUI never I have one problem.
Shredder GUI is the most stable GUI I know.
Perfectly for testing engines.
And if you Need a strong book ...
I am development now since many years a strong and equal book for it. Can be found on my webpage.
Try it out ...
PS: Normely I wish me the same ... engine without GUI.
But in case of Shredder GUI ... it is all the time an event to have it. Need not many RAM, perfectly to find mistakes with debug Option, all what is really important is included. In case of Shredder ... it's absolutly OK to make the engine available, included the GUI.
I like to say ...
German high-class workmanship
And to hide such a strong work ... it make no sense!
Such a comment from a person with develops with Martin Blume many years Arena ... also a strong GUI yes!
OK, I added the engine in my ToDo list.
But this one is the last engine I added before my list ended.
Must see and must have!
Great that Shredder is now again in the field of best engines in the World. Shredder is computer chess history pure. UCI protocol and many years the number 1, often World Champion.
Important for hold the German computer chess flag on TOP-Level-Niveau. More and more strong American engines are available. Between all the American engines the German flag should be ...
I like all the American programs (Crafty most) but the German flag should be also available in the list of TOP-Engines because in the past Germans do a lot for computer chess.

334 Elo does not mean 334 Elo added to Shredder's CCRL rating. It looks like Deep Shredder 13 is stronger than Houdini 4 - and about the same strength as Komodo 8. That is extremely impressive considering where it came from, that being 29th place on the CCRL list. Furthermore, this is only the third engine that I have seen surpass Houdini 4. Houdini 4 is at a rating that few have succeeded to reach thus far - although it is possible that Fire 5 could have surpassed Houdini also. Once Shredder is tested by CCRL, it should become the new number three until Houdini 5 comes out. Even after a massive Elo gain and a complete rewrite of Shredder you can see just how difficult it is to be on par with Komodo, and especially Stockfish.
