Re: Stockfish17.1 in puzzle rush
Stockfish is not a great puzzle solver.
What is the difference between "Stockfish assisted" and "Stockfish solved them"?

Taking ideas is not a vice, it is a virtue. We have another word for this. It is called learning.
But sharing ideas is an even greater virtue. We have another word for this. It is called teaching.

I believe Stockfish assisted means some software to use stockfish.Dann Corbit wrote: ↑Sat Oct 25, 2025 12:20 am Stockfish is not a great puzzle solver.

I am not sure how it used it exactly and maybe it used multi-pv with 2 options and decided to play a move as soon as it saw a mate or a big difference between the best 2 moves(there were some problems when stockfish relatively used more time)

Re: Stockfish17.1 in puzzle rush
from the comments in the link:
Explainations for the failed positions.
Failed position 1: Be5 is fairly easy for a human to find. However Stockfish played Bxg7+ which is also a good move. Stockfish 17.1 finds Be5 on my Computer in less than 2 seconds, and after less than 4 seconds we have four winning moves for white Be5, a4, Bxg7+, c4. This means the puzzle contains multiple solutions and is thus invalid.
Position 2: the correct move is Kh2. Stockfish doesn't seem to find it however Stockfish 17.1 gave Kh2 after less then a second on my computer and took 5 seconds to determine a +3 advantage so I don't know what happened.
Position 3: This is tragically a case of the classical repetition evaluation error. Basically Stockfish intended to repeat the position and then play the correct Ng5. It sometimes happens that Stockfish evaluates a move higher even though the best continuation is to repeat the position and then play the second line of the engine.

Re: Stockfish17.1 in puzzle rush
The positions are always with the opponent to move when the opponent makes a move(often a mistake) and stockfish replies
