It works with all normal production PCs as far as I know. It’s also free. If you’d like me to research the cost of getting it to run with obscure systems, the initial research fee to establish this charge would be 5000 euros plus another 5000 euros to invest in a suitably obscure PC.

I think so yes, all CS Tals and Rebels were built with MSVC in the past as that is Chris' compiler of choice and other compilers had trouble with the very large networks used at least that's what I remember. The .exe is uncompressed 139 Mb and Google could not viruscheck something that large :0 (so you have to give Google permission to download anyway). Malwarebytes scanned it okay and runs okay in Shredder GUI here:

All compilers have problems. Best is to choose one that is well supported and produces code that runs on all but obscurely modified PCs.
My old company was chosen by Microsoft way back pre-1995 to beta test and use what is now known as MSVC. I’ve been using it and upgrades of it ever since. Very reliable, internally checked and robust system that generates robust code designed to not crash user systems and to recover in the case of problems.

I think the question is rather whether other OS such as Linux or macOS could potentially be supported. That's easy enough to answer - if it's standard compliant C++, then there would be such potential in theory, though probably not the authors' interest in practice.

Yes, thanks. Other operating systems (OS). Whitespread (like in your and any other phone/tablet/computer). Not obscure.

Why did I even ask this question? Should've known better. Disappointing like the Rebel based on Toga*, or the Rodent* thingy. All taken and verwursted to windows-only.

The new EAS version of Chess System Tal has greatly improved when it is about playing style playing unbelievable sharp games with lots of material sacrifices, Paul Morphy would have blushed. Stefan Pohl kindly tested Chess System Tal 2.1 EAS already, here are the results.

Cool...
90% of coding is debugging, the other 10% is writing bugs.

?? Is this a joke
what do you think ?
(he's British, you know)

PS tried to find a download link for this 2.1 version, but on github last version is from 2023
as for Rebel extreme (dev 45? ) i first found this:
https://www.sportpoeders.nl/nl/webshop/ ... l-extreme/[/b]
and then this :
https://rebel7775.wixsite.com/rebel/kop ... el-eas-2-0
which after download gives a version from 2024. i'll try some games
later with my gambit book (instead of Pat4, for a change).

One thing always amazed me about computer chess. You release a program, free or not, and some end users think they own you, make demands, get insulting if you don’t comply. Well do sorry to have disappointed you kid. Anything else I can do?
Tell you what, cpeters, you are specifically denied a licence to download or use any engine of mine. Erase what you have from your equipment. Have a nice day.

Yes that does happen, but some people simply make polite enquiries which is of course different.

You're right, for example if you only support and supply Windows exes that is entirely up to you. If you choose only to supply exes for modern hardware say, that is also entirely up to you. If you choose not to support tablebases say, then that is also entirely up to you. If you set certain hash size requirements say, up to you again. It is your program and your decisions to make.
