The end of ChessWar

Post by Olivier Deville »

Dear friends,

This is to confirm the rumours that ChessWar is going to an end.

Of course, I am annoyed by all the clone/derivative stories, but the main reason is I now want to spend my time with other things.

I am still interested in amateur chess engines, and I really liked the social event of broadcasting games. So possibly there will be a new edition of OpenWar at the end of the year. We'll see.

Of course I'll keep the Winboard Forum alive.

Well, this is a very sad news, Olivier :(

But considering your constant dedication throughout all those many years it is understandable that you can get tired/bored eventually. Thanks a lot for all those passionating years!

And, hopefully, see you for a new OpenWar! :)

Thanks Oliver for your efforts so far. I'm very glad then I had the opportunity to participate in at least one ChessWar edition with a lot of games for my engine (from Promo up to division C).

Have fun

First Leo, and now you. It is sad to see the two great tournaments ending.

Take care, Oliver. I hope you have fun with your other projects. And I do hope you keep OpenWar alive.

Thanks Olivier.

I liked your tournaments - it was nice to have a performancerating calculated after each round :D .

Hope you will continue with OpenWar or something...

Good luck!

Although I was very bad at fixing bugs you reported, I was very appreciative of your hard work and dedication. Thanks!!!

Thank you for your patience and dedication. You will, of course, be missed.
However, given how some of us keep returning to computer chess, even after breaks of several years, hopefully you will return at some point.

Brian
