Re: LearningLemming 0.30X Gauntlet - 40/40 Repeating

Post by swami »

Cons:

! 1.Lemming doesn't seem to make better use of its own pieces especially when lauching the king side attack. Piece Activity and Mobility of Pieces needs to be further improved.

(Example: Game 53)

!! 2. Makes frequent unneccessary backward movement with its own pieces, especially moves that are computer like and is hard to fathom.

(Game 53)

! 3.Plays very defensive instead of giving up material(usually pawn) in compensation for a good position.

!!! 4.Doesn't especially play well with Rook. It just moves in and placed it in some random position as long as the eval doesn't show too much fluctuations.

(Game 59, 75, 87)

! 5.Lemming doesn't understand how and when to handle the Rook pawn on the castled side. It just pushes up that pawn on 3rd rank when it could push up 2 steps forward to launch an attack.

(Game: 47, 84)

!! 6.Pawn Structures: Isolated pawns, Weak Pawns, Backward pawns, Centre pawns, Connected pawns need to be fully improved, It does understand some pawn structures, but it certainly doesn't understand some others.

Underestimates the Black's strong center connected passers and instead goes for material
(pawn on e5). Never allow your opponent to have a strong connected passers in
the center.

!! Also how to handle the pawn cover of the king.

(Game: 64, 89, 90)

!!! 7. Knowledge of Weak and Strong Squares need to improved. Should learn how to create a weak squares on opponents territory and prevent opponents from creating weak squares on your own territory if is possible.

(Example: Game 53, 69, 82, 93, 99, 107,121)

!! 8. Lemming thinks it is Ok to go for material in critical positions where positional play is the first priority:
(Game 74,87)

!!! 9. Bad side of castling, If your pawn structure from either Queen side or King side is messy and allows your opponent to set it up and attack quicker, then don’t castle in there. King safery in general needs some improvement (Game 74,112)

! 10. Sometimes lets the opponent castle to the safer side when that could be prevented. (Game 74, 96)

! 11. Whenever the opponents Queen is on f6 or the Knight on C6, Just play h3 beforehand, else
you will get the doubled pawn on f3 sometimes, unless White's queen guards the
f3 Knight all the time. (Game 75)

! 12. If your opponent is pawn up material-wise. Never try to exchange off materials when your opponent has a
material advantage in what is considered somewhat normal position. By "normal"
I mean the position where you wouldn't see the king side attacks and positional
sacrifices to gain positional advantage. (Game 78)

! 13. In endgame, theory is always bring your king to the center of the board when you advance the pieces, mind the pawns later. Endgame basics overall needs to be further improved (Game 78, 90)

!!! 14. Really needs to reduce the waiting moves in critical positions, where active play is *must*, waiting moves are usually moves that are
1.Without any plans 2.waiting for opponent to do something, give a chance 3. don’t know how to develop pieces.
Too much waiting moves lead to decrease In eval, which in turn leads to more chances of losing the game.
So, Piece activity and fast development of pieces to realize the purpose and plan is required.

(Game 81, 83, 99)

! 15.Don’t play too defensively and materially when there is no need be, sometimes should see that the positional advantages can be superior in the middle game.

(Game 82)

!! 16.Don’t push up the king side pawns when opponents Bishops can face and access to your king side and will have some destructive plans.
Don’t let opponent create long range diagonals especially from Bishops facing your own king side where the pawn cover is not too good. Avoid pushing up the king side pawns when opp’s Bishop is around.

(Game 82)

!! 17.Dont just trade the Rook immediately. Just keep it in the strong square : c5!
Rc5 good temporary outpost, later bring the other rook to the same file.
Black will lead in the queen side battle (Game 83)

! 18.Don’t contemplate on sacrificing too much in the ending. (Game 84)

!!! 19.Lack of priority in fast development and piece activity is quite
dangerous in openings.} (Game 88, 96,119)

!! 20. Lemming sometimes thinks Rook is inferior to Bishop (Game 93)

Now, the lost games are complete, I will check out the Draw and Win games tonight and will create the "Pros" list, It's been an hectic week, sorry for some delay. When's the Next ACCA match? or are there any specific plans?

The two possible dates I heard were Oct 18 and Nov 8, with Nov. 8 seeming more likely. I dream of adding some form of minor multiprocessing support, and improved eval by then. It is unclear how realistic it is to add both. If I only do one it will probably be eval, because it is easier to do using only small blocks of programming time.
