I run your engine on a core i7 920 @3.87Ghz HT OFF
When i set to 4cores i get max. around 72% cpu use in Arena 2.0.1
So i think your SMP is not optimal yet!
Hope you can fix this also later!

Kind regards,
Jean-Paul.
The SMP algorithm I am using is far from optimal. However, it might not be terrible. In the way I set it up the tree generally does not increase much at all. In other words, you get 72% usage, but each node searched is useful. Other algorithms may give close to 100% usage but may have a 30% of useless nodes searched because the tree is ~30 % bigger.

But I guess you are right, there is a lot of room for improvement. If the SMP search of this version is stable and gives at least some real benefit, It will fulfill my expectations. Improvement can come after that.

generating 4-men tablebases certainly uses 2 cores here - not constantly, but most of the time. I also wonder if generating 5-man can use 4 cores. I'm about to try.

Edit: 5-men seems to just use one cpu some of the time and 4 at others. It is currently using about 1GB of RAM here

It does use 4 cores for long periods once it gets into the process. It has peaked at 1.2GB of memory usage.

I already have 5 gig of tablebases generated since my post about 2 hrs ago, so it is going quite quickly. I'm assuming they will end up at 7 gig similar to Nalimov, but let's wait and see..

Hmm..... so far I have generated 9GB of 5-men files, about 85 of them
If there ends up being 290 files as there is with nalimov bases, how much space is this going to take up - Miguel ?

5-men generation just terminated with a "Lack of memory" error on my machine. Task manager shows it using 1.7GB of memory at that point

How to I generate Gaviota Tablebases?
