Nice stats.

Scorpio winning against Hiacrs. Tornado and Tinker drawing with Scorpio.

_BYE_ is way overdue for a rewrite.

Tornado is way stronger than it used to be.
Think I'll give Bye a miss!

When the tournament is running, "mam lp 1" gives a crosstable, and "mam games 1" gives a list of currently running games. For each game you can use "observe <player>" and watch the game. Channel 49 is where most people were chatting, so you can use "tell 49 Hello!!!".

This tournament was OK, I had to disconnect several times because of a ponder bug that I didn't catch before, but that only made it lose time. I think I might do another ZCT release soon.

Actually, the Scorpio Tinker draw should have been a loss for Tinker, but there was some odd time problem with Scorpio (its time went negative more than 3 minutes, but it did not get flagged--perhaps because Tinker was playing under Arena 2). It may have something to do with trying to observe another game while playing under Winboard.

Yeah, it's kind of hard if you're brand new to it.

'+ch 49' joins channel 49, which is where people were chatting sometimes.
Then, 'tell 49 blahblahblah' would let you say things to people.

As a guest, you can't talk to many people, but you can 'tell admin Hi there, my name is so-and-so and I'd like an account to observe with' and HG would help you (thanks, HG!) Once you're registered, then 'shout blahblahblah' also works (but talking in the channel is still better, because shouts can't be done too frequently).

To watch a game, type something like 'observe hiarcs'. You can 'kibitz blahblahblah' to say something only to the people who are watching the game that hiarcs is in (including both players).

Well, sort of. Guests cannot join channels. They won't know which games to watch. They can 'observe' the games of a particular player. For our tournaments, the guest would have to know what are the player handles to observe, but how can they do that without joining the tournament channel?

So, really, its a bad guest experience.
hgm's server is great, and hosting ACCA events in this place looks a nice idea.

I have noticed a limitation though : mamer bot does not listen to guests. Maybe this can be worked out ?

I'm sure that can be done with a simple variable "set" (like, "set tell 1").

Because the source is available, even more customizations can be done. I suggest the following:

1. The login text should say what tournament the server is for.
2. The welcome text (after the login) should say something like:
use tell 49 to chat, etc.
Basically, to give instructions to new users regarding the basic commands needed to enjoy the tournament.
3. By default, all users should have channel 49 in their channel list (just like guests at FICS have channel 4 by default).
4. All registered users should have "set tell 1" by default.

Good suggestions. I had a couple of problems with kibitzing as well: All of my kibitzes weren't visible to myself. The opponent could see them, but I couldn't. Not sure what the problem is here. Also, it seemed that my kibitzes were getting mangled by the presence of % signs.

It might be nice to have a website for these tournaments, as well as an automated process for creating accounts.
