Thanks to Tord and Jim. I am very excited for to test
Glaurung 2.0.1.
And more: For me Tord is a great human being.

Cygwin GCC build. No speed demon, but might just work.

Re: Glaurung 2.0.1 Windows build available
Depth 9 or 10 seems a bit low, Erik? Glaurung should do about 560 kilonodes per second on a 2 GHz Athlon, on a Quad it should reach more than double that I think? This is the analysis output for the starting position, under ChessPartner 5.4 Glaurung now plays the Philidor defence! (256 Mb HT, Athlon 2009 MHz, 1 thread), the first all processors version with 312832 bytes:Erik Roggenburg wrote:Loads in Arena, but won't move in a match. Looks like it analyzes ok.
Only got to depth of 9 or 10 in a 1+1 match in Shredder GUI... is that normal?

Have not yet tried playing a match though.
To be honest Tord, I do miss the adjustable Aggressiveness and Cowardice etc. from Glaurung 1 a bit

OK. I feel embarrased.
I had permanent brain on in the Shredder GUI. Once I unchecked it, Glaurung was performing as I had expected as far as depth goes.

Jim.

This one is working just fine.
Re: Glaurung 2.0.1 Windows build available
I had no idea that the new Glaurung gained that much speed. I was thinking it only gained around 10%. A speed up of 40-60% should fall in the range of 20-30 point improvement in strength, right?Tord Romstad wrote:That probably depends on your CPU and/or OS. I just compared the speed of the 32-bit and 64-bit binaries on my iMac Core Duo 2.8 GHz, under Mac OS X and Linux (the latter running in a virtual machine under OS X). For the OS X binaries, which were compiled with the Intel compiler, 64-bit gave a speedup of 42.7%. For the Linux binaries, which were compiled with GCC 4.1, the 64-bit speedup was 57.9%.Tony Thomas wrote:Why? Glaurung hardly gains any speed from 64bit.Martin T wrote:Excellent!
I will wait for a 64-bit build though.
A speedup around 40-60% probably isn't worth a lot of Elo points, but it is still enough that I understand that people want to wait for the 64-bit version.

Re: Glaurung 2.0.1 Windows build available
Hey Jim, Glaurung doesnt like to use own book here. What's the trick? I put the name book.bin in the UCI options, and that book is from the epsilon 5 version (it never used the book here either).Jim Ablett wrote:Hi Tord,
Thank very much for the new Glaurung release.
The 'divide by zero' bug seems to occur when Glaurung is
in book (using it's own opening book). I get no crashes using
Arena mainbook.

Re: Glaurung 2.0.1 Windows build available
Hi Tony,
as I said I'm getting a 'divide by zero' error every so often while
Glaurung plays from it.
Try the cygwin build I posted earlier. http://www.zshare.net/download/50960996a5c480/
This uses the Linux version of the code. If the book works ok in that
build then there maybe a Windows bug that needs fixing.
rgds,
Jim.

Re: Glaurung 2.0.1 Windows build available
Yes, the Cygwin version does use the book. How much speed loss do you expect from using the cygwin version? I put Glaurung on my que, even though I am a Glaurung fan, I didnt want to be unfair to all the other weak engines on my list. It seems like a windows specific problem, Tord had said something similar when he released epsilon 4, and I think it was Dan who concurred with me.Jim Ablett wrote:Hi Tony,Glaurung's using it's opening book for me (latest Salvo), butHey Jim, Glaurung doesnt like to use own book here.
