Amazing endgame in the 44th round! Houdini manages to bend Stockfish in its domain (endgame), and increases its advantage to +2!

Re: Houdini vs Stockfish Match 2014
Hmm... off-topic maybe, but Houdini holding its own against even the latest Stockfish Dev. versions makes one wonder exactly how talented are the large number
of stockfish programmers !
In my opinion, one Robert Houdart or even one Larry Kaufmann are a hundred times more talented than the hundreds of Stockfish programmers put together.

Just my two cents over this issue, shrapnel wrote:Hmm... off-topic maybe, but Houdini holding its own against even the latest Stockfish Dev. versions makes one wonder exactly how talented are the large numberof stockfish programmers !

First of all many thanks to Richard B Riddick
You made me lough Anil

For example, on my testings (at blitz and slow time controls) Stockfish performed better than Komodo and Houdini
All of them (Komodo,Houdini,Stockfish) are super strong engines,
it is really sad and injustice that you have such opinion about Stockfish's Authors Note also that Stockfish is completely 100 % free...!!!
Show a little bit respect please...
One thing more,
I'd like point out that due to no much free time,I checked only the last one, B52: Sicilian Moscow
Where I noticed Stockfish or any other Top engines will suffer (as Whites) due to critical, weak openings...
And it does not matter reversed colors or...
The top engines should be really very carefully tested... especially under these conditions
My recommendation is that, the top engines should be tested with very strong openings, when I say with very strong openings, I dont mean about the opening lines, which are played by Grandmaster moves, I mean especially for lines, which suit to Top Engines styles...
Where Whites should have 55% wining percentage and Blacks 45 %
Note also that the Top Book Authors (Plychess,Testo,SCCT,...) never prefer B52: Sicilian Moscow
Do you know why ??? I expect that you will not find the answer...so I will try to help you...
Just because the Top Book Makers have a lot of knowledge about openings...
They (Top Book Authors) are testing their books with thousands of games...maybe millions...
Spending hours,days,weeks,months,years...
And finely after such efforts, work and experience: the success is at the door

Btw, here are some opening books, based on slow time controls:
Opening book based on SSDF/CEGT 40/120 games (minimum 2900 Elo)

Opening book based on CCRL 40/40 games (minimum 3000 Elo)

And here is the Perfect 2013 book (I think 3.Bb5 in my previous book version is not allowed too) , where 3.Bb5 is not allowed for playing

BTW, I started testing Komodo,Houdini,Stockfish at 40/120 too and do you know which chess engine is the current leader ??
again Stockfish and very soon I hope to publish the results...
Hope this helps...
Best,
Sedat

Re: Houdini vs Stockfish Match 2014
Hi Sedat Canbaz, thanks for your opinion but I don't agree with what you said. Engine test must be heterogeneous as possible! If an opening line is weak, both engines should be able to exploit weaknesses of such opening line. If B52: Sicilian Moscow is a weak opening line, both engines would have to win at least one game. Instead Houdini only was able to win two games (white and black side), but Stockfish none (5-3 with 6 draws). Also the opening lines choices by Graham Banks, have been carefully selected. For these reasons I chose this library openings, it has been carefully selected and it is really heterogeneous.Sedat Canbaz wrote:I'd like point out that due to no much free time,I checked only the last one, B52: Sicilian Moscow

I think Houdini is more complete engine (that is stronger) than Stockfish (for now clearly), and this match is an excellent testing ground!

Re: Houdini vs Stockfish Match 2014
Remarkable results sofar, but to few games to tell with certainty
Remarkable because already for 3 -4 months in matches at rapid time control and longer the Stockfish versions are better in matches against Houdini 4.
And with longer time controls the winning percentage only tends to become bigger for Stockfish
My guess is that at very long time controls such as yours, the ELO differences between engines diminish because of the growing amount of draws and random luck factor
There are to few matches with more than 100 games at very LTC played so I really hope you will continue at least until 100 games

You forget that Houdini and Komodo have the advantage that it is not a free source codeshrapnel wrote:Hmm... off-topic maybe, but Houdini holding its own against even the latest Stockfish Dev. versions makes one wonder exactly how talented are the large numberof stockfish programmers !

so Robert houdart or Larry Kaufman can learn from the code of stockfish when the opposite is not correct.
Even in case that houdini or komodo was free source code the results do not measure talent because programmers who spend more time or use more testing time may have the advantage and nobody measure the time that programmers of stockfish use for developing.
