Congrats Steve! It's great to see an original chess engine. I've been following the development of Maverick on your blog. Glad to hear your engine is ready for release.
At the moment, despite the speed advantage of 5.5 Mnps to 180 Knps, my engine scores 90%+ against yours. We'll see how long that lasts once you add null move, hash tables, better eval, etc
How do you count Nps? I count every time I play a move, not when I generate a move.

Thanks! Hopefully Maverick will improve quite quickly and give your engine a bit of a challenge.
I increment the node count whenever I call "alphabeta" or "qsearch". I think this is virtually the same as your method.

This is quite a bit higher than I expected. In my tests Maverick is about the same level as Predateur, which is 1850 ELO.
