Hi all,
Does anyone know how to set up Murka's hash size when it is being run as a Winboard engine? (There is no uci setting for hash and this is a problem when using Arena.)

Thanks,
CL

I'm not sure that you can use it as a winboard engine?
When I set Murka 3.0 up as a uci engine in ChessGUI, I was given the option to change the hash setting.

If you install as a uci engine in Arena, load it and then right click on the engine pane, does it give you the option there?

There is no hash size option when right-clicking (there are no uci options at all, hence I'm wondering about winboard command line switches, since it does run as wb). In Fritz and ChessGUI the hash can be set through the GUI, if run as uci, but in Arena I usually set the hash for each uci engine individually because setting the same hash for all engines is buggy.

Apparently, it was a temporary bug in Arena that prevented the display of Murka's uci options. It works fine now. The new Murka seems to be very strong, especially when compared to the prior version. We've seen quite a few much improved engines lately.

I prefer using Arena to ChessGUI because of the much nicer graphics. I do enjoy watching the games as they happen :-)

Some interesting features in the code:

- very aggressive LMR in Cut nodes
- no PV update in Qsearch?
- null move R increased with depth and if bad eval (very similar to Stockfish)
- no null move verification, apparently.

Thanks to Dariusz,
we have a Translation of the file description text - here in this thread.
Here you can read, how to Setup the Hash.

Murka works fine here in Shredder GUI - and has the Option for Setting hash. In Arena 3.0 there is a bug - no Chance to set hash in uci mode with rightclick the engine. It starts on my pc with 256 MB since I have set UCI Options to 256 MB for all uci engines.
It works too as a wb engine and you can set hash with the commandline Option.

Here at blitz after 64 games it has about 40 % against average 2900 opposition.
At ultra-fast controls, the level of Shredder 12.

Code: Select all

Games Completed = 200 of 6000 (Avg game length = 13.725 sec)
Settings = RR/32MB/100ms
 1. Shredder 12 92.5/200	72-87-41 (L: m=87 t=0 i=0 a=0)	(D: r=28 i=4 f=7 s=2 a=0)	(tpm=137.2 d=10.25 nps=718927)
 2. Murka 3 107.5/200	87-72-41 (L: m=72 t=0 i=0 a=0)	(D: r=28 i=4 f=7 s=2 a=0)	(tpm=73.0 d=11.33 nps=3159780)
