Are there any sites that support playing Spartan chess for humans? As far as I know, none of my regular haunts do (brainking.com, schemingmind.com, littlegolem.net, goldtoken.com) - and that is pretty much the reason for my rather low interest in the variant - I've never played it myself, and all the discussion I've seen around it have focused on programs playing it, not humans.

Is there actually a human community playing this variant anywhere? (... and preferably not the chessvariants.com site's game courier - while I find that the chessvariants.com site contain a lot of useful information, I've found the playing interface to be abysmal!)

I have only played spartan chess against engines. Anyway, I think is a very interesting game.

I've tested:
-tjchess 64 bits against tjchess 32 bits
-tjchess 64 bits vs imortal 1.0
-tjchess 32 bits vs imortal 1.0
Take the results with a grain of salt, because I used no opening book. Which means that there are many repeated games probably.
Time control was 30+0.05 in cutechess. Computer used: Intel duo core E6300 at 1.86 Ghz (1 cpu). RAM used was the default for each engine, so about 32 Mb I think. OS: Ubuntu 12.04, 64 bits.
I used bayeselo to compute the ratings, result are the following:
Rank Name Elo + - games score oppo. draws
1 tjchess64 146 36 34 200 74% -73 0%
2 tjchess32 -5 32 32 200 49% 3 1%
3 imortal -141 33 35 200 27% 70 1%

I still have the games in pgn format. You can download them at http://www.sendspace.com/file/j5a5fb.
