Hi,

Read the Copyrights on the Arena page (Legal Stuff). If COMPUTERBILD can ask for permission why aren't those people able to do so ?

It is free for use but they need permission if they want to host it. Why do you think those papers ask for permission ? Even it is free ?

There is a Russian forum who has copied info from the Arena page:
1)without asking for permission
2)without citing the source
3) without publishing the entire interview

They are also illegaly hosting Arena.

We do not ask for money but they should at least show so much respect and do the right thing. Nevermind, I don't expect that from people from that part of the world.

Articles from the Arena page have been published in Spain, France, Italy,... people asked for permission and got an answer. It seems this too difficult for those people.

Why do you assume that the Russians are actually "Russian"? And I am not from "that part of the World", yet when I asked for permission, I was banned for it. Even though I _was_ following the license (It wasn't my fault it was poorly written), you guys took action against me.

So based on history, what would they have to gain by asking for permission?

And if you are all tied up in knots over someone not citing a full article or giving credit, welcome to the internet. Do you realize how many time my 10 for 10 article has been published elsewhere with no credit given? Do you think I care?

Why would I? People get to read my article where they choose to browse, and get some quality information from an interview that took weeks to put together.

You have to remember that the star isn't the creator, it's the content.

Now, just for thoroughness, did you ask them about the interview or about the link? Did you email and ask for it to be removed? Here's why..

That site and I have a history, and I try to stop them from their activities. The few real "pirates" there are far outweighed by people looking for information about the Ippolit family of engines or discussing chess. How do I know this? I have spoken to many of them. They are not all bad people. Many run small tournaments just like people do here. Where is the harm in that?

I don't condemn that site entirely, just parts of it, or some of the people from it. Do I wish they would stop posting links to illegal content? Of course. Do I think if I emailed them about something they would consider it? Of course. As I said, not all the people there are bad people. Why don't I? Because I don't think it would have an overall effect. In your situation, I am 100% sure that if you had emailed asking for the article to be removed or at least cited properly, it probably would have been done.

And for the record, this forum has more "Russian" members than that one. You can quote me on any or all of this. I don't care.

Hi,

If it no then it is no. They can post a link, saying there is an interesting interview there:...

I know you don't care, but I care and we at Arena cite and ask for permission for each screenshot, article or interview and do post links and citations and cite the entire page if they want us to do so. People who made the original article are also mentioned. See news items 188,192, etc at the Arena page. If not then we don't publish it. When they say NO it is NO. We do not go on publishing it anyway.

Sorry, they took the information and they should have asked. Maybe this is the way they are doing their homework/work/degrees also, copying without citing.

They should Chris a mail, he is very helpful

So then this has to do with ego and control.

Not everyone does things the same way you guys do. They aren't a news site. The post was probably done by a user, not a site admin.

So why not _ask_ for it to be removed? I don't see how whining about it here will do you any good.

For the record, I searched their site and I can't find the article you speak of. Do you have a link to it? If so, email me it and I will ask about it.

As I have said, not everyone there is unreasonable.

I beg your pardon entering into this discussion.
I'm an Arena user (that I do appreciate a lot, BTW).

Being an occasional reader of this forum, I would appreciate a lot, Michael, if you could summarize your blames, for people who would like to understand what happened, and were not aware of the circumstances that raised it.

Thx so much (trying seriously to understand)

Hi Peter and Michael,

well, I'm a bit astounded.
Afaik, this special forum don't care much about other people's property.
You can find links to most of the commercial engines and software (cracked) over there.

But I really thought that most of the users and engine authors were aware of this.

You all expect too much from me and nothing from people who illegaly host Arena and do not bother about copyrights. It seems you support illegal hosting and cpyright infrigment. Maybe your employer should know this, what do you think ?

You got it all wrong. I am against any kind of copyright infringement. But I also find deplorable, your constant childish behavior and xenophobic statements.
BTW, I _am_ the employer. And I wouldn't definitely hire someone like you, with clear signs of trouble-maker.

Hi,

As any civilised person should start a posting...

I am not a troublemaker, I just want that my work is cited accordingly, maybe you don't respect the work of your employers. I understand, everybody who disagrees with you is a troublemaker :).

Code: Select all

And I wouldn't definitely hire someone like you
Are your products of the same high quality as your chess engine ? Are you charging your clients while you write in this forum ?
