Game 74 - Houdini exchange sac sparks momentary interest

Post by Graham Banks »

GAME 74

Houdini holds the black side of this French Tarrasch line just as easily, then sparks some interest with an exchange sac on f3. However, this fails to achieve anything and the game ends in yet another draw. Komodo leads by +4 =69 -1.

are you going to go until game 150 to reach a 6-win outcome?

this seems to be a longer affair than Karpov-Kasparov back then.

I have the match set up to play 100 games if necessary.
I thought that would be plenty.

Haven't decided yet. Will either extend the match or do a Campomanes.

Game 75 - Houdini gains spatial edge, but Komodo equalises

Post by Graham Banks »

GAME 75

Houdini elects to give up a pawn to gain a spatial edge. Komodo gives the pawn back to gain near equality. Even though Houdini is left with a passed pawn on e6 and more active pieces, there is no way to take advantage of either. Most of the pieces come off to leave a knight and pawns ending that is drawn. Komodo leads by +4 =70 -1.

Game 76 - Houdini gives up pawn, but no disadvantage

Post by Graham Banks »

GAME 76

As black, Houdini gives up a clear pawn, but the game reaches an early rook and pawns ending, in which the extra pawn is inconsequential. Another draw, leaving Komodo ahead by +4 =71 -1.

Game 77 - Caro-Kann line, but no real excitement - drawn.

Post by Graham Banks »

GAME 77

A Caro-Kann line, but no real excitement is forthcoming. Mass exchanges lead to another drawish endgame in which Houdini takes the perpetual check on offer. Komodo leads by +4 =72 -1.

Game 78 - another draw. Komodo leads by +4 =73 -1.

Post by Graham Banks »

GAME 78

Although Komodo plays the opening slightly differently, there is still no advantage for either side. After the rooks all come off, the queens and a pair of knights follow to leave a knight and pawns ending. There is plenty of play left, but the draw is never in doubt. Komodo leads by +4 =73 -1.
