How do you feel if I have experts look at the source and if related to robbo/fruit we then redo it and sell it, the name Chimera!Houdini wrote:Marco, I am actually quite reluctant to post here.
But unfortunately, there is so much nonsense that is written on this forum about everything related to Houdini (see the other thread "The ChessOK, the Houdini & Robert....") that after a while I feel the need to provide some factual, correct information about what is happening.
Feel free to ignore this thread if you're not interested in Houdini or Aquarium.

My post wasn't related to a special Engine. Kai was talking about "assimilated Fruit Code" which is illegal. He said Authors are idiots if they don't "assimilate" Fruit and Stockfish code.Ralph Stoesser wrote:Replace "Code" by "Ideas and Techniques". And don't forget to remove "illegaly"...Alexander Schmidt wrote:Is that some kind of irony?Laskos wrote:My claim is that the _professional_ CC programmers of Fritz, Junior, Hiarcs and Shredder repeatedly have shown themselves as at least incompetent and lazy, if not as idiots.
I can't believe that one calls people, who do NOT illegaly assimilate Open Source Code, idiots.
The whole point of Open Source is to share ideas and techniques. Nothing wrong in using the best known ideas from Open Source. In contrary it is highly desirable!
SO no, I don't remove illegal because it IS illegal to assimilate gpl Code.

Interesting to see you prefering yet-to-become-customers while those who have already paid for it (plus the advertised free updates) have to wait...Houdini wrote:...This update will also be made available to all current Houdini 2 users, e-mails will be sent in the following week....
While being the strongest engine in fast ("kiddy")-timecontrols, there are on-par options for serious (Correspondence) chess... there its just one of few... indeed it always gets pretty blind around depth30 and beyond (which is funnily also a weakness of the whole Ippolit-familyHoudini wrote:with the strongest engine (Houdini)

Interesting: Some just said they are idiots because they didn't use Fruit code, you say they are paragons of useing illegal code.geots wrote:The people on this and other forums would be floored if they actually knew how some of these paragons of virtue raided Fruit.
I suggest you both first discuss why they are idiots, then we go on...

Not to forget, I fully agree with you as long as people respect the copyright which seem to be not the case sometimes. Ask Fabien if he desired the use of his code in RybkaRalph Stoesser wrote:The whole point of Open Source is to share ideas and techniques. Admit it and I will move along on my _very_ merry way. Until you stop trying to deceive this community, there is no rock you can hide under.
Peter
What does it bother you?
It would be quite a misrepresentation if Houdini was reduced to being called a "based on Robbolito" program.
It's rather like saying that Peter must admit that he himself is merely a bathroom decoration. Oh no sorry! I didn't want to say this, anyway one other thought:
Perhaps there should be another forum about money or legality topics, and all these discussions can be moved to there.
I honestly feel it all belongs somewhere else.

I guess it is "hard" to tell the truth.
Peter
It's like forcing every poster to write in bold type "I am nothing of value, more than a bathroom decoration".
Some wouldn't actually mind, perhaps.
But others might be rightly offended, even if there maybe some fact in it.
I feel that humankind can be treated with a little dignity.

It's NOT OK to keep obsessively repeating it over and over, in every post that Robert makes. The quality of the thread is shot to shit.
By now, any idiot can see that Robert does not feel compelled to reply to Peter's questions, don't you agree? And make no mistake about it, that IS Robert's freedom to choose whether to answer or not.
So it's time (past time really), for Peter to either pack it in, or take it to the correct forum -- the bitching and moaning, er - the origins of engines forum.
It might even be called "harrasement" of another member.
(besides that it belongs on a different forum)

Peter,
let us not make the same mistake the "Open Letter" programmer do. Enough words are spoken, we should be able to set the right reactions or we discuss about it in the next 10 years.
I think I had good contacts to the ChessAssistant team in the latest 15 years. I will write a mail to Victor and Sergei.
Best
