Based on what is reported here, it seems that after Rybka's disqualification, Loop is now considered to be in 2nd place at the 2007 WCCC ?

I guess it remains to see whether that will stand, since Loop appears to contain a Fruit-derived eval...

And has never been proven as a clone of anything I might add. Even under the closest scrutiny to date.

Chris
A disassembly of Loop's eval was posted somewhere, and several of the people who had been looking at the Rybka-Fruit similarity in eval looked at that disassembly and noted a similarity with Fruit.

A more comprehensive investigation of Loop is warranted, but I don't think that has happened yet.

Can you prove that?

It is not proven yet, its only an allegation.

Here is one thread where the similarity between Loop eval and Fruit eval is noted. Back in May when the last post to that thread occurred, I did look at the disassembly and it looked pretty familiar.

Perhaps it's not the best day for computer chess, but it can be a good day if the actions taken serve as a positive influence on current and future authors who might otherwise might think that they can easily get away with unauthorized cloning.

The sad thing is that if Bob were asked if parts of Crafty's code could be copied, he probably would have said yes if a reasonable acknowledgement arrangement was made.
Correct. I have given _many_ permission to use the rotated bit-board code in older versions of Crafty. And I explained my reasoning that suggested that such code was OK to borrow. But then again, when someone asked, they included an acknowledgement. Vas claimed _everything_ in his code was original and written by him...
Haha :-)
Google "rotated bitboard hyatt" and there you have everything you need to write a rotated bitboard program. Algorithms perfectly described, with lots of code snippets. Almost all "rotated" engines are probably based on that page, maybe except for those few who were too lazy to implement their own code that way, and instead asked you for permission.

Hard to claim copyright on something that you published on the net in such detail.

Just what I did, once I gave up on Ubuntu.

There were some minor problems getting YouTube working, though I managed. I gave up on Google Earth after making my system unbootable trying.

Acceptable to me.

Why all this excitement? Had anyone seen with their own eyes the source code for Rybka? Who cares about ICGA? It is just another gaming organization. It's decision should not in any way disdain consumers from buying the best program there is. I will still be buying Rybka engines as my pocket allows. Rybka was judged as it is now by none others but by its competitors. It is a preferred outcome for them.

Did you guys visited ICGA's website, lately? There's a scrolling text saying "Attack of the Clones by David Levy".

Who's in charge of this website? :)

Wow, you got me googling to get this one... until I found a website describing K.S. as "the professional Star Wars fan" ;)
