I tried using Djinn as a test opponent but the current public version doesn't do very well in bullet (40/5" or 40/10")
This is not very surprising considering the fact xboard doesn't send time in milliseconds. Arasan fares even worse so I wasn't able to use it either.
Dirty is the only xboard engine handling bullet well.

I hope you make a great improvement but not too great :wink:
Hey Dragan,

That's actually good to know. I'm going to see if I can fix that over the weekend. I want Djinn
to be able to handle all time controls. Are you using cutechess-cli or something else?

Did you try Gaviota?

This discussion caught my attention, and I think a 100 game match at 40/20 repeating is in order. And it should be interesting. You can follow the updates in Tournament and Matches Section................

Best to you both,

george

PS: Controls will be benchmarked to CCRL standards.

Re: My test Nebula 2.0 vs. N2 0.4

Post by Sylwy »

Hi !

Here it is !
Conditions:

TC=4'+2"
Hash=128 MB
Book=Shredder12.ctg
GUI=Fritzy 11
CPU=Athlon 64 3800+

Both engines were linked to 5 men Nalimov TBs.

N2 0.4 has 2389 ELO points on CEGT (4'/40).
Seems, after this short test, Nebula 2.0 w32 1CPU to have around 2420 ELO CEGT (4'/40). Very close to its rating in TCEC tournament of Mr. Martin Thorensen (2421):

http://www.tcec-chess.net/engine_ratings.php

All in all - a very stable and promising chess engine.

Waiting for the tests coming from Monsieur Georges - ex CCRL premium tester ! :lol:

Have - you all - a nice weekend ! The mountains wait for me ( they are a lot of snow just now - wonderful) !

Gaviota is my absolute favorite test opponent and my main target. My goal for the next release is to reach the level of 0.85.1 :)
The goal for 2.0 was to reach Cheng's level under my test conditions and that was accomplished.
My top 5 test opponents in order of preference are:
1. Gaviota 0.85.1
2. Cheng 1.07
3. Rodent 0.7
4. Dirty 5-Sep
5. RedQueen 1.1.3

If my test versions are very close in strength, I pick the one that has better score against top 5.

I choose Gaviota as my main target, because I respect its author the most :)

Yes, I use cutechess.

I prefer opponents that are slightly stronger then Nebula. The beatings Nebula gets from them serve as a motivating factor. Looks like you are the same :)

George, that would be great. Thanks.
I test at 40 moves in 10sec, so don't have a clue how engine performs at longer time controls.
Will have to do more trash talking in the future to motivate some more testers :)
Cheers, Dragan

Thanks Ruxy.
Doubt I will ever be able to reach the level of Naum if I decide to go my own way without referencing top open source programs.
Don't really care about going for the top. I just want to have some fun doing my own thing.
I would be disappointed if I don't get +100 ELO over 1.5 in CEGT blitz. Are you a CEGT tester?

Dragan, tell them your newest version can give Houdini "pawn and move". That will light a fire under them.

Best,

george
