Too late... :( yesterday evening after searching the net I built a new version without the export and I do not have access to a Mac atm.

Worth a try, but it didn't do the trick for Stockfish. I still haven't been able to compile a binary compatible with 10.5.

By the way, I am very surprised that so many people are still using 10.5. I thought everybody would have upgraded by now. Snow Leopard is awesome, and the upgrade from Leopard is ridiculously cheap.
You also need to export a particular environment variable, to use the legacy linker format:

export MACOSX_DEPLOYMENT_TARGET="10.5"

I have currently no plans to release it, maybe later.

The new binary works for me under both 10.5.8 and 10.6.4. Thanks again.

The new version runs well on my Macbook and OS X 10.5.8 now. Thanks Allard!

I know Tord .. bought and installed the update Snow Leo DVD the day it was released. But a specific hardware I need is not supported .. so still "prisoned" in my old Leo.

Thank you very much,

Did you also add '-mmacosx-version-min=10.5' to the linker flags?

No, I didn't, and my binary didn't work on 10.5.8. I assume that's the step I missed. Maybe Tord missed it too?

Thanks for the Mac OS X support!

Spark 0.4 with Dr. Deeb's excellent book is now the fourth strongest engine in my stable at speed chess time controls. It comes in below Hiarcs 13.1b and Stockfish 1.6.3, and above Hiarcs 12.1 and Stockfish 1.5.1. Version 0.4 is quite a bit stronger than 0.3 which was around the strength of Glaurung 2.2.
