Post by maxchgr »

Hi,
I hope this question is okay to post here
I am interested in Homer, installed it,

it asks in installation if i want
Homer2.0 for all x86 processors
Homer2.0 optimized for Pent 4
Homer2.0 optimized for Pent III
Homer2.0 for all (32and64)

I have a Pentium(R) D and I don't know which to choose,

Hello Maksim,

Of the choices you show the best match would probably be the Pentium 4 as I think Pentium D is essentially a Pentium 4 with dual core technology? Homer is not yet ready for Multiprocessing I think so you can use only one processor of your Pentium D.

If you have a 64 bit operating system installed, Windows XP 64 bit or Windows Vista 64 bit you might want a 64 bit version of Homer but I'm not sure that is what Daniel Mehrmann means with
Homer2.0 for all (32and64)
I suppose that this is a general version for both 32 or 64 bit processors, but not a version that can run as a full 64 bit chessprogram. Older Pentium III processors for instance were 32-bit, Pentium 4 I believe is 64 bit capable but Windows XP and Windows 98 only allow 32-bit programs and most chessprograms today are still only 32-bit.

If the Homer 2.0 Pentium 4 version is not running well on your computer I would try the Homer2.0 for all (32and64).

Regards, Eelco

Hi !

Sorry, for the delay.

If you use a PentiumD CPU please choose the "P4 optimized" version.

Best,
Daniel
