Komodo 11.01

Post by lkaufman » Tue May 23, 2017 7:15 am

Komodo 11.01 is being released today at komodochess.com. It was made available yesterday to subscribers, but those who dowloaded it should download it again now because we made a slightly faster compile and because the readme file was not ready yesterday. Pricing is the same as for Komodo 10, which should go on sale shortly with Komodo 9.02 becoming the free version.
ChessBase released Komodo 11 a week or so ago but right after we delivered it to them we found a couple minor search bugs and so decided to skip over Komodo 11 and go directly to the corrected version 11.01 which has a couple other improvements as well. We understand that ChessBase will switch to 11.01 and upgrade their customers for free.
We estimate that Komodo 11.01 is about five elo stronger than Komodo 11, about ten elo stronger than our last release Komodo 10.4, and about 55 elo stronger than Komodo 10 at intermediate time controls. Testers should test 11.01 now that we don't anticipate any further corrections. Most of the gains since Komodo 10.4 are eval-related.
Anyone whose subscription expired between the dates of the ChessBase release and today is being given an automatic extension to include today's release.

The work you do is amazing and I'm a massive supporter of it.

However, several times now it would have seemed better to me to wait until the difference between major versions (10.4 - 11.01) was bigger.

But I suppose you're comparing 10 with 11.01

The website still takes the user to Komodo 10.4 from the Komodo 11 link now.

Just to be completely clear, is the estimate of Komodo 11.01 vs Komodo 10.4 +10 Elo and not +15 Elo ? I'm still amazed that you guys keep eking more Elo out of an already hugely strong engine.
.

Opinions expressed here are my own, and not necessarily those of the CCRL Group.

Yes, we are seeing about +10 elo gain from Komodo 10.4 for Komodo 11.01. Both at single and MP runs. Larry will have more data from his overnight run on the big machines.

Larry - without giving away trade secrets, how did you get the faster compile? More broadly, what compiler are you using?

11.01 still plays the inferior move (h3) rn2k1nr/1bqp1ppp/p2bp3/1p6/3NP3/2NB4/PPP2PPP/R1BQR1K1 w kq - 6 9 . Same as in the last year during stage 3 :?

Timing of major (Komodo 10,11 etc..) depends mostly on ChessBase needs, and they are only concerned about total Elo gain since last major version and like to keep to a one year schedule if possible.

I'll leave it to Mark to comment on this, since he does the compiles. We're not doing anything in that regard unusual or interesting.

It appears to be fine now. Sorry for the delay. Orders are now being filled for Komodo 11.01.
