Komodo 9.42

Komodo 9.42 is now available for download, free for anyone entitled to 9.4. While version 9.41 corrected an eval bug, it introduced another unrelated bug which was very serious. Version 9.42 fixes that bug, and keeps the eval bug fix, so we expect that 9.42 will play about five elo stronger than 9.4 and should work properly on all the normal platforms, as far as we know. We urge everyone who got 9.4 or 9.41 to replace it with 9.42.
As for testers, any results on 9.41 should be discarded, while results on 9.4 were probably only crippled by 5 elo so we leave it to your judgment whether to test 9.42 from scratch or merge results with 9.4 results. But 9.41 results are worthless, the bug was huge.
Sorry for the need for two bugfixes, but we are reasonably confident that 9.42 is our best version ever.

Will the Komodo team be reiterating, the "4 updates" commitment with K10 subscribers? It looks like the only version, to clearly show an ELO increase across the rating lists, while remaining bug free, was 9.2

I saw increases in all versions (9.1-9.3) for CEGT, except for the bug in 9.3 that seems to only affect it when on 4 threads.

9.1 and 9.3 were skipped in some lists (IPON). 9.3 get below 9.2 on CCRL 40/40 and 9.1 gets below 9 on CCRL 40/4. That's why I said "across the rating lists", results are inconsistent except for version 9.2

We will aim for quarterly releases starting with version 10.00 (which will probably be in May), but we aim for at least 15 elo and/or major new option with each release, and since elo gains are not predictable, this is just a goal. I admit that version 9.3 wasn't a clear enough improvement to justify it in retrospect; all the others clearly were worthwhile.

Leave it to the customers to decide if there is any improvement or not.
(We won't grumble if there isn't ).

thanks for the fast bugfixes.

Test-Run for Komodo 9.42 x64 will be start March 25th, 2016. My report / results can be found later in tournament selection from this forum.
