THE upset of the WC: Maverick-Komodo drawn!

Post by Jeroen »

In the WCSC Maverick just held Komodo to a well deserved draw! What a major upset :-).

After 20 moves white was simply better, in the end Komodo had zero chances for a win. Really, its book is killing the performance here, there is no denying.....

Congrats to Steve Maughan!

Just shows you, with a small number of games, anything can happen !

The point of course is that if a small number of games isn't able to establish your superiority, you are not really superior in any practical sense. People here tend to make an a big issue of a 30-Elo difference, but the typical user won't play the hundreds of games you need to see such a difference matter. They analyze a position from their own game, and wheter the chance the engine will indicate the best move in that particular position are 95.00% or 95.03% doesn't make the slightest difference to them.

Congrats to Steve Maughan!
Wow, that's absolutely amazing!

considering that Komodo used 8 cores and Maverick 1,
the difference should be over 800 elo (not sure how much Steve improved since 1.0*)

So yes, congrats to Steve!!

Oops, right, I misread the title page. But still ~800 difference according to CCRL.

Against Fridolin: another weird line and a drawish position after just 25 moves. But probably Mark L will be happy :-).

Ginkgo. It plays Maverick and Fridolin in the last 2 rounds. The others all have very tough opponents.
