Many thanks for all who support my project. Any critical opinions about the work of Sting (with examples) are welcome.

Programmers are deceiving us. We can be critical for manufacturers of shoes, but not for programmers. Why? Maybe it lost us. :wink:

When several of the standard programs can't solve a problem, I like to try Sting.

It's always good to have another voice to hear.

I tested version 4.8 64 bit. It was worse than normal SF 6 in both Arasan (Dart) and Brilliant (Eigenmann) test suites. In mate solving it was equal.

In midddle-games you are right.

If you (and other) like to hear I explain my project.

I started with a position (first branch):
[d]8/5pKN/5Pp1/5kP1/8/Bb6/8/7q b - - bm Qxh7;
It is a very easy for chessplayers sacrifice. At first human look, it is mpossible to stop the black pawn "g6".
It happens when a sacrifice leads to a longer play ("horizon effect").

Next, Sting solved two serious problem with zugzwang positions. First "zugzwang with beta == VALUE_DRAW" and second "zugzwang delayed by pawn neutral moves (horizon effect)".
The second branch is represented by again very easy for human position:
[d]5K2/k4p1p/5p1p/1p3p2/bP6/1p6/1P5p/7B w - - bm Ke8(e7);
The black King is trapped soon and all black pawns to get lost.

Next branch, solved by Sting, is applies to "trapped pieces in endgames".
[d]4q1kr/p6p/1prQPppB/4n3/4P3/2P5/PP2B2P/R5K1 w - - bm Qxe5;
After 1.Qxe5 fxe5 2.Rf1 and next 3.Bd1 and black can't do something useful and again it is very easy to guess.

And last branch "sacrifice leading to fortress" and an easy representative:
[d]7r/p3k3/2p5/1pPp4/3P4/PP4P1/3P1PB1/2K5 w - - bm Kd1;
Again, each who can see fortress, immediatelly solves it.

All the code solutions are working together, it means e.g. the second example is impossible to solve without the code for first branch.

Unfortunately, all the samples are very good material for scientist pressing works at artifical inteligence. In my opinion it is not good if top engines remains silent in such positions.

Sting is not "Saint Grail".
Alpha-beta search in chess is very easy without these problems, sacrifices, zugwangs etc.
Programmers may choose such an sensitivity for their engines. It always means that they may only want to save the ELO strength what is very difficult if the sensitivity will be too high.
It is a personal choise to leave such problems and gain next ELO points by aggressive prunning.
Maybe, I can't be friendly, but let me be useful.

I am very happy that Stocfish can solve tough positions.
Sting was not created to challange with Stockfish. Why I did it I described above. It menas Sting try to solve positions which were not solved by top engines and to show how someone can do it. I hope my work gave a good effect and we will have engines free of some shame behaviours.
Believe me I don't like programming and I have some more interesting occupations. E.g. doing nothing. 8-)
I also hope that the curse: "Just ignore him!" will be removed. :roll:

Stockfish have some doubts about some positions :
I'll do deeper investigations.
