Hello together,
what is your current operation system and do you see from Absolute Zero.executables v2.0.1.0 - 2.1.0.0 - 2.3.0.0 - 2.4.0.0
https://github.com/zongzhengli/Absolute-Zero/releases a complete chessboard with all the white and black pieces like on Zong´s personal website http://zongzhengli.com/ ?
My approaches with Windows XP SP3 -32 bit are after a double mouse-click on .exe-files:
v2.0.1.0 and 2.1.0.0 ~ GUI (engine terminal) with settings e.g. playing mode like human vs computer, white pieces are correctly represented, but instead of black pieces only rectangles are shown
v2.3.0.0 and 2.4.0.0 ~ GUI (engine terminal) is closed immediately
I ask you that because I had a similar déjà vu-event recently with Fischerle , a UCI compatible chess engine by Roland Stuckardt:
http://www.stuckardt.de/index.php/schac ... herle.html
After unzipping the .rar-file with a software like IZArc http://www.izarc.org/ it contains a folder "distr" including a .jar-file. A double click with the mouse shows only a violet-white-squared chessboard with rectangles instead of chess figures for both sides. But if the application "DadaChessfield CB-Compatible", a font for creating chessdiagrams by Daniel Kopp http://www.schachfeld.de/f44/exclusiv-s ... font-4914/ is put after extraction into C:\WINDOWS\Fonts a complete chessboard with all pieces is visible.
For Java engines you can use Oracle Java SE (JDK 7 - JRE 7) http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/ ... index.html
My presumption: Is probably a chess font missing or could it be only an operation system-related problem?
What are your experiences with Absolute Zero executable files, especially under the OSes Windows Vista / 7 / 8 (32 - 64 bit-systems) and XP x64?
Best wishes,
Norbert

Re: GUI problems with Absolute Zero and Fischerle
I use Win7 64-bit.
No problems running engine v engine matches with either using ChessGUI.
Absolute Zero requires the -u command line parameter if you wish to run as a uci engine inside an external GUI.

Norbert has problems with the GUIs of both chess programs.
The engines work very well even in my old & good Windows XP 32-bit !
