BugChess2 1.9 available (SMP)

Post by FrancoisK » Fri Apr 29, 2011 8:19 am

Hi

At Leo's site as usual.
What's new :
- You can specify the number of threads to use in command line like this : "-ThreadNb 4".
- lots of changes everywhere, mainly search, x64 optimization, material bonuses and time control (fisher and sudden death modes are better tuned).
- and more important, the old annoying "-winboard" parameter is now optional ;-)

Enjoy ^^

Hi Francois,

that's indeed really good news.
I like your engine and BugChess is one of the best available engines so far.

BugChess2 1.7 is at the moment on SWCR place 32 with around 2.560 ELO after 1.240 40-minutes games with ponder=on (compare to Crafty 23.4 x642 = 2.620).

Many things to do in SWCR, BugChess2 1.9 is 3 months in wait position, but will be test later, sure!

Have thanks for your new version.

Best
Frank

Folks, why are you so enthusiastic about a several years old ancient version? It is clear that BugChess development has come to an end.

Without the engines, based on Fruit, is BugChess2 the next one and Frenzee will be follow.

Based on your own ... CEGT and CCRL results.

As next reason:
I like BugChess2 a lot. Engine comes with very aggressive ideas after opening book moves, compare to Cheng, ICE, Fizbo ... and the Killers Hakkapeliitta, Spark, Junior.

A good sparring partner for all others in the future for FCT League 3 and FCT League 2.

You can see in my FCP Rating List that I have 5 places free (21 engines for FCT League 1, 2, 3). After BugChess2 and Frenzee I have three places free ... if Maverik, Donna, Grecko, Gödel goes over 2600 Elo (or others).

Note:
My FCT Rating List is very new. You have BugChess2 in your list and I have to test all of the older engines between all the current engine updates. The reason I added Toga, GnuChess, Doch and others in the last months. Start of the year I have in my brain to give the older engines the highest priority.

And maybe ...
The BugChess2 programmer will see that we test it again and maybe he have interest to improve BugChess2 again ... BugChess3 will be great for all of us.

Best
Frank

PS: I like all engines!
For me isn't important to see Stockfish or BugChess2 ... I have the same fun with BugChess or Stockfish. Different people collected engines ... I collected playing styles!

Have a look how many games and opponents I have for all the engines in my Rating List, played in FCT League 2 and 3 with my very fast hardware and good time control. In most of cases more games and opponents CEGT and CCRL have together. I will create a strong Rating List ... need it for my playing styles. Most important for me are the playing styles and my own opening book. Not very important for myself is the Rating List ... OK, I have it but not very important for myself.

Friendly reagards to you ... thinking on Winboard times ... Gabor was one of the most important names.
I like computer chess!
