It is a very nice, stable program and I even had the earlier versions when they were DOS programs. I am just curious as to the approximate strength on a typical dual-core laptop. Is there any testing results out there for CG classic 7?
Thanks,
Gerald

Hi Jerry !
=============
I'm a big fan-also-of ChessGenius series !
In Swedish list -SSDF- Genius 6.5 (Millenium Edition ) has a 2.476 ELO points on an old K6-2/450MHz/128 MB ( position 120 in SSDF list ):

ChessGenius Classic - the last version is 7.2e- on a modern PC- has a rating over 2.600. You can test yourself ! On ChessGenius GUI you can arrange engine-engine matches using near all WB & WB/UCI engines(like
Spike,Naum,Thinker,Smarthink,Ruffian ) using a very easy wbkonverter :

Have fun !

Re: Even 2795 in a human tournament !

"Perhaps ChessGenius's greatest achievement came in August 1994 when it shocked the Chess World and became the first program ever to beat a World Champion (Gary Kasparov) at a non-blitz time level. ChessGenius also knocked GM Nikolic out of the same tournament, achieving an astounding 2795 ELO rating - all on a mere 100 Mhz Pentium PC! "

Re: Strength of Chess Genius Classic
Is there any way to test it? I don't think it has a protocol for using external testers or tools.Dann Corbit wrote:CEGT has Elo of 2409:Amstaff wrote:It is a very nice, stable program and I even had the earlier versions when they were DOS programs. Re: Strength of Chess Genius Classic
Hi Don,
if I remember correct:
I tested ChessGenius on a Windows 32bit System with a Intel Dual Core 6600. I made eng-eng matches with ponder off using the same short book for both engines. Time was adapted to CEGT 40/20.
All opponents have been wb compatible engines installed into the Chess Genius GUI . Maybe I even used some uci engines with a uci-wb adapter.
I think it is too possible to make matches between 2 PC using auto232 connection (you need a com port or a usb/com adapter and 2 similar pc - and here most games run with ponder on. So nothing for CEGT.
PS any news abouts new Komodo?
regards
Werner

Re: Strength of Chess Genius Classic
But what was the strength when you tested it? And if this is Chess Genius Classic what does the "classic" mean? I wonder which version of genius (if any) this corresponds to?Werner wrote:Hi Don,

I cannot run it on windows 7, but it's running on linux using wine with no trouble.

Re: Strength of Chess Genius Classic
Hi,
I have tested Chess Genius 7.0 engine:
736 Rotor 0.3 2412
737 Genius 7 2409
738 Romichess P3K 2409
Classic is the name of the new GUI which is now compatible to newer Windows. See more here: http://chessgenius.com/pc/index.html
The engine itself was not changed - I think till version 6.5 - its written in Assembler code I have heard.
And the pc I have tested it a long time ago is history - I do not have it anymore.
