Scorpio 2.6 (wb) JA by Daniel Shawul
http://dshawul.googlepages.com/home
Windows/Linux 64/32 Intel p.g.o compiles.
Changes:
Changes
-------
* Official release of cluster version of scorpio. Many changes have been
made since the last beta release. I can not list all of those changes here
so I will let those interesed to go look the commit history here
http://github.com/dshawul
Every change I made to scorpio is recored in there from now on.
* The serial version of scorpio is also worked upon so I expect a couple of elo
points stronger but not by much. All of my changes are search changes (eval is identical
to previous version). I want to see how far I can go with this before I tune/add evaluation
features.
- Major bug in SEE (have been there since 2.5) fixed.
- 0 check extensions in search.
- Modified futility pruning
- Double reductions at PV nodes too
- Max aspiration window of 200 and probably many other small changes
For detailed changes look at the commits ...
* Evaluation is untouched but I have set it up well for my next project , which is tuning.
Many parameters are modifiable using the new winboard "options feature". Scorpio can be
configured from ini file, command line or the new winboard options window..

Hi Jim and Daniel,
thanks for the new version.
To the right time for myself.
I started with Scropio 2.5 in SWCR-64 yesterday.
Only 43 games are to replay

Now version 2.6 is still running!
Best
Frank

Hi Frank,
the frustrations of a tester, but that's life of course. Engine authors should release new versions on their own timeline.
Cheers,
Graham.

What are you talking about ? If anything Frank seems to be happy about the release.
Maybe you are the one frustrated as you have to do replays when official releases are made.
Just want to make clear that nobody insists every version be tested. Anyway 2.5 has been 6 or so months old already..

This looks quite cool. Do you think you could write a tutorial on the clustering features?

Hi Daniel,
yes, I am happy ...
Nobody know that ...
The three engines
I play 40 / 120 games on my T7300 Intel Dual Core 2.0 GHz Notebook are:
1. SSEChess
2. AnMon
3.
Scorpio
I will not give you the result

but in the table I am on three. Scorpio is on 1.
So you get my personally computer chess award.
I like Scorpio!!
Grafic by Wilhelm and myself for my older Winboard site I made for years (today WBEC).
BTW: Graham ...
Graham would only write a nice message. After all I know, Graham like Scorpio too.
If you like you can follow the Scorpio 2.6 results. From Mo (evening) up to Sa (morning) I update the tournament table on 3x times weekly. The link to the tournament table can be found on the index / start page (actual x64 tournament, still running since yesterday).
Scorpio have to play now 800 games in SWCR-64 and I on weekend in the garden against Scorpio
Best
Frank

I am very happy Daniel. You took my post completely the wrong way.
Scorpio is a great engine and I thank you for your efforts as always.
The chart below shows 6000+ games for Scorpio at the 40/40 time control. That's at 32-bit 1CPU only.
Cheers,
Graham.

I am always thankful for you or anyone who even plays one game with it. So please don't try to make me feel guilty.
I was only objecting to the "frustration" you mentioned which was out of place IMHO. You could have said that some years ago when I used to release new versions 2,3 days...
Young person with lots of energy to spend.. This one is released after 6 or so months which is long enough in my book.
I learned to take the occasional swipes people take at me when a version doesn't do good or even bad

Anyway I apologize if I misunderstood you.

Thanks for your interest. I will try to document all the "how tos" and probably write some notes on its inner workings for those interested in the programming aspect. Since I am not much of an expert it would be more like an adventure story though, not a tutorial

I will follow the tourney closely .
