New release: Plisk 022

Post by vladstamate » Mon May 03, 2010 8:17 pm

Hi all,

I have uploaded the new version of Plisk, 022 on its website:

http://sites.google.com/site/pliskchess/

Windows (32, 64 and AMD64) and Linux (32) binaries are available there. This version now supports pondering and a number of fixes and improvements were done in the pawn evaluation (especially passed and isolani) as well as king safety and attack overhaul.

This version plays around 76 elo stronger than the last Plisk (021):

Code: Select all

Program Elo + - Games Score Av.Op. Draws

  1 Plisk022 : 2078 37 36 300 60.7 % 2002 17.3 %
  2 Plisk021 : 2002 36 37 300 39.3 % 2078 17.3 %
However in reality the difference should be a bit higher due to pondering feature (the test above was done with pondering off) as well as better compile.

Plisk now plays on ICC as well (FICS it already played on). For some reason the rating on ICC is higher than on FICS (FICS-2064 ICC-2212, for example).

You can find results of testing suites (STS, wac, wcsac, eet, pet, and so on) on the website above.

OpenWar7 - this should be the release to participate in that tournament if no major issues arrive.

Kind regards,
Vlad.

Mersi Vlad,
Multa bafta in continuare !

Cu stima,
Silvian

NR: ICC are alt algoritm de calcul al ratingului .

Silvian:

Harun:

Thanks a lot! I am curious how will it turn out.

Regards,
Vlad.

Hi Harun,

Thanks for the update, the results are definitely encouraging!

I wanted to mention that even though I have MP search inside Plisk (doing YBW algorithm) for this release it is disable due to some instability issues I had. As such Plisk 0.2.2 is really 1CPU engine.

I say that because I noticed you say 4CPU. :)

Regards,
Vlad.

Hi Harun,

Plisk is not using 3 cores when I test it. I have machines with 1, 2 and 4 cores and Plisk always uses 1 core even when it is pondering. It will use half a core when it is not pondering since it goes to sleep when the other player moves.

That can happen though if you somehow have NumberThreads=4 or anything else than 1 in your config.txt file. Also just run plisk and check out the TTY (or Arena log) or the log file it creates. At the beginning it should report how many cores(threads) it creates. It should be 1.

Regards,
Vlad.

I'll look closer at this again. But I am pretty sure plisk 022 uses all cores.

This is plisk analyzing with the settings file showing NumberThreads=1 and the CPU utilization on 2core machine - and it uses only 50% of the CPU:

http://9008008158415190827-a-1802744773 ... edirects=0

I am not sure what is happening on your PC, but you can check what Task Manager says next to the plisk utilization. If you have NumberThreads=1 I highly doubt is should be anything more than 1 core (25% for 4 cores or 50% for 2 core machines).

Actually I realised that if you have NumberThreads=0 that could cause it to use all cores (or crash).

Regards,
Vlad.
