Spark released

Post by Allard Siemelink » Sun Nov 01, 2009 4:53 pm

Spark 0.3 is now available:

http://members.ziggo.nl/allard.siemelink/spark/

- single cpu only
- without opening book
- without endgame bitbases/tablebase support
- performs best on a 64-bit OS (Linux, Mac OSX, or Windows)
- probably a bit stronger than my other engine: Bright

Is it better than Bright this time?

An honest question.

Is it better than Bright this time?
As I said: probably.
Head to head on my 32-bit Windows machine and with ultrafast time controls, Spark beats Bright by 50 elo or so. Mostly because it searches smarter and deeper, I gather.
The difference should be more pronounced on a 64-bit OS as Spark then picks up a 50% speed premium due to it being a bitboard engine.

I hope CCRL and CEGT will test it, then we'll know for sure.
