Petir 4.9999999 exe-file (Peter Alloysius)

Post by Norbert Raimund Leisner » Thu Aug 21, 2008 7:40 am

Hello,

the embedding into Arena-GUI (WB-protocol) of Petir 4.999999
causes no problems, but when you click on the Petir 4.999999*exe-file
I get a message: "Windows had detected a problem and must be ended"
I use XP SP3 (32-bit).

Who made similar experiences with that Petir4.999999*exe-file?

Best wishes,
Norbert

From the readme.txt file:

"Petir comes with neither GUI nor text interface (console mode) ,
so the ONLY way to play it is by using other GUI like
Arena or Winboard."

Hello Norbert,

Some WB engines have special or unique parameters which you must specify in the command line (to be sure, Petir is not one of them). It is useful to study the readme files, also as an excellent resource there is the WBEC Ridderkerk page with its engines section.

Here Petir runs without problems and my OS is identical with yours. Check all lines in the Petir administration window.

I recommend to check everything carefullly when you install engines. Also, don't forget to check the parameters in the engine ini or cfg etc. files. You seem to have many problems with running engines and I suspect sometimes you miss something relevant.

Runs good in Arena. I use Vista.

Best to you.

Gerold.

P.S. Thanks to Peter for a strong engine.

Petir works for me in Arena, but there are too many losses on time for my liking.

Expect time losses if you are using an incremental time control. Since Petir supports time controls such as 3 0 without a problem, I made an exception, and that's the time control I used.

I don't use incremental time controls.
