Where is Alaric?

For me, Alaric was one of the highlights 2007. A strong new engine with good improvements from version to version. I think 707's strength is on Fritz 8 level. Unfortunately, there are no Alaric news since July.

By the way, for unknown reason Alaric is nightmare for Belka (on my PC of course)

I think I am the guilty one here

After putting a lot of effort and time on Alaric during first half of 2007 I just got bored of the whole shit...

This happens to me from time to time and so far I always came back to chess programming and I probably will this time to sooner or later.

I had some more improvements to Alaric to do but after that maybe I will start designing a new engine again. That seems to be the best way to improve!

I never heard of Alaric but Fritz 8 is on sale at Targer stores for only $9.95. I could not believe the price and once you logon it will download Fritz 7 for free.

Alaric 707 is free and is of similar strength to SmarThink 1.00.

I was quickly convinced that Alaric is what I like to call "a quality engine", maybe comparable to Delfi or Colossus, in some sense (although multi-pv and tbs. or bitbases support are missing).

Well some say that the CCRL ratings are a little inflated, but both engines would be around the 2750 ELO mark.
On the CEGT lists they're around the 2700 ELO mark as is Fritz 8, so pretty strong whichever way you look at it.
