I guess the main problem is stability and lack of testing/games for engines in this region? Probably you have already looked at the chronology?
May be Vincent Lejeunes GURL and my effort based on it GURL-2 might help you, because here are a lot of rating pools combined
(also from the past, when people tested a wider range of programs - also due to the fact that the number of available programs was smaller)
and weaker programs also have a lot of games played.
My initial search was for engines running natively at that strength. Failing to find ones that on my current machine do so, I was trying to lower elo rates of existing engines to match the desired ones.
Thanks to Vincent Lejeune and your effort on GURL. It is the solution. In the region I live, internet is to slow to open the current google doc, I managed to find some useful list going up from 1500. The next effort is to find executables that on current hardware stay at the same level....
Tweaking with Ufim did allow me to lower its strength enough to be able to challenge it with my engine. I wonder if on any list, there is some test on tweaked engines to validate their claims to play at a certain elo level?
In the mean time, I found more useful information on EPD test suites. Do you have any idea of a test with a program implementing automation in the range 1200-1500? (e.g. https://www.schach-computer.info/wiki/i ... CT_II_Test and alike target more like >1800 levels)

Well, I could send you the file as csv or whatever, if you want.
May be I should even make it available as a simple download too?
Just send me a PM if you want it.
I skipped your last question, because I have no idea, sorry.
Edit:
If you wait a few minutes it will be available as download at my rwbc site anyways

Bug reports would be be ignored anyway, so an issue tracker would be useless. To put it blunt, Arena is hacked-together software without even the least sense of quality.
However, it does have a semi-decent user interface.

Shredder has a nice ELO slider, and it actually works. The engine does commit the kind of errors that a human at that level is likely to make.
These days, it's harder to reduce engine strength in a convincing way than to beat the world chess champion.

Where can we get a free version on linux with configurable strength?
Don't the engines that I proposed to you do the job? I can add some other engines if you want.
Another option (as H.G.Muller suggested) would be to play with the time control. In XBoard, you have an option named time odds. It divides the time allowed for one opponent, and lets the other use the full time.
