Fireworks for the Fourth

Post by carldaman »

It's Independence Day in the US, so to celebrate the holiday I'm sharing some recent CyberNezh brilliancies, full of dazzling sacs and daring attacking play, drawing the opponents into a dubious-but-deadly morass of complications.
Try this style of play at your own risk. :P

[pgn] [Event "50m/10m"] [Date "2019.06.10"] [Round "5"] [White "Ares-GB-w64adv"] [Black "CyberNezh"] [Result "0-1"] [ECO "C00"] [WhiteElo "2400"] [PlyCount "64"] [EventDate "2019.??.??"] 1. e4 e6 2.Nf3 d5 3. Nc3 d4 4. Nb5 c5 5. Bd3 a6 6. Na3 b5 7. b3 Bb7 8. O-O Nd7 9. c4 b4 10. Nc2 g5 $1 11. Be2 g4 12. Nfe1 h5 13. d3 Bd6 14. g3 f5 15. exf5 Qc7 $1 16. fxe6 Ne5 17. a3 h4 18. Bf4 hxg3 19. Bxg3 Nf6 20. axb4 O-O-O $1 21. bxc5 Rxh2 $3 22. Bxh2 Rh8 23. e7 Qxe7 24. f3 Rxh2 $3 25. Rf2 g3 $1 26. Rxh2 gxh2+ 27. Kh1 Nfg4 $1 28. c6 Nf2+ 29. Kxh2 Nxf3+ 30. Kg2 Qg7+ $1 31. Kxf2 Qg3+ 32. Kf1 Qg1# 0-1 [/pgn]

I really 'dug' the kingside pawn storm that eventually led to the double Rxh2 sac.

[pgn] [Event "50m/10m"] [Date "2019.06.11"] [Round "1"] [White "CyberNezh"] [Black "Amyan 1.72"] [Result "1-0"] [ECO "C06"] [BlackElo "2600"] [PlyCount "77"] [EventDate "2019.??.??"] 1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. Nd2 Nf6 4.e5 Nfd7 5. c3 c5 6. Bd3 cxd4 7. cxd4 Nc6 8. Ne2 f6 9. f4 fxe5 10. fxe5 Nxd4 11.O-O Qb6 12. Nf4 $5 g6 $1 13. Kh1 $1 Nxe5 14. Nh5 {?!!} Nxd3 $1 15. Nf6+ Kd8 16. Nf3 Nxf3 $6 17. I loved the 14.Nh5 (?!!) idea, not quite sound, but similar to what I've seen in some thematic correspondence games
that followed this gambit line of the Tarrasch French.

[pgn] [Event "10m+6s"] [Date "2019.06.22"] [Round "2"] [White "Giraffe 20150908_w64"] [Black "CyberNezh"] [Result "0-1"] [ECO "C48"] [WhiteElo "2475"] [PlyCount "68"] [EventDate "2019.??.??"] 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. Bb5 Bc5 5. O-O O-O 6. Nxe5 Nd4 7. a4 d5 8. exd5 c6 9. dxc6 bxc6 10. Nxc6 Nxc6 11. Bxc6 Ng4 $1 12. g3 Bxf2+ $1 13. Kg2 Rb8 14. Bf3 Nxh2 $1 15. Kxh2 Bxg3+ $1 16. Kxg3 Qc7+ 17. Ke6 Kg8 $1 33. Rf3 Qd7+ 34. Kxf6 Qf7# 0-1 [/pgn]

The win over Giraffe is easily my favorite, saccing a bunch of pawns, dangling the Rook on a8,
and then furiously saccing three more pieces before the final king hunt. Mind-boggling stuff. :)
(Note: the above games were played without a book)

Cheers!

This is a world-wide forum about computer chess. Not everybody, by any means, supports USA, or its Independence Day. Nor is everybody American. Some of us see the US as an enemy nation, I certainly do. Same goes for naming programs after War Criminals. The idea on these forums is that politics go to CTF.

OpenTal was clearly one of the inspirations for this, and I thank you for your work on that, Pawel.
I wish Brandon was still posting here (and I hope he's doing well).

My hope was to have a super-strong coffeehouse player, hearkening back to the old Romantic era of the 1800's,
but also stronger than today's best humans, too.

Cheers,
CL

Well, the main content of the post was really about spectacular chess. The holiday was just an opportunity to stay up late and post some great chess games. Surprised you didn't comment on those, since your CSTAL pioneered the same wild attacking style and that was also an inspiration for 'Nezh.

(Besides, just because someone values and respects the principles upon which the nation was founded does not mean he/she supports all its current or past policies. You can be sure of that.)

It is a private engine specializing in fearless attacking chess. Once in a while, when I have time, I will post some of its games for entertainment purposes. :)

Why 39.- Rf4+ is labelled as checkmate (#)? Are not possible 39.- ..., Kh6 and 39.- ..., Kh7 moves? It might be an engine problem or a GUI problem.

Regards from Spain.

yes, thanks for that. I guess one of the reasons I might not comment on games is that I have no way to distinguish most posters anymore, gone are the days when people were using their real names, and thus I can’t predistinguish who is worth reading and who not. So many handles.

I was at the annual Soviet/Russian War Memorial service in London on May 9, celebrating Victory in the Great Patriotic War, followed by Immortal Regiment parade through central London. I sense that making celebratory passing comments to that would not go down too well here. For sure, celebratory comments about Peoples Liberation Army Victory over USA in Vietnam, would get some hostility, I think, even though I feel as strongly about that as you may over Independence Day. I wouldn’t mention it anyway, because I’m not particularly socially connected to this forum, but if I felt the need to mention it in passing, I’ld self-censor based on imagined reaction. I guess my gripe is that the computer chess forum is simply ‘Americanised’, as reflected in the apparent okay-ness of naming and posting a program named after a war criminal. That I find actually offensive, and insensitive. Possibly how you’ld feel if games from Goebbels v1.1 were posted a lot.

Anyway, I hope you had a good holiday

Just for clarity, who is the war criminal?
