Mate in 82?
Taking ideas is not a vice, it is a virtue. We have another word for this. It is called learning.
But sharing ideas is an even greater virtue. We have another word for this. It is called teaching.

Re: Mate in 82?
With some back and for with the latest McCain-X2 (released today). Black would be fine if it does not capture a2, once that happens it's all over and it can be forced. Ultimately black will be forced to play g6 and that will obviously lose.Dann Corbit wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2019 5:36 am [d]8/1p1p2p1/5p1p/5P1P/1p1p1P2/pP1P1P2/P1k1B3/4K3 w - -

Peter did it in Faster Forced Mate. "It" being probably not quite what you meant, though.

ChestUCI doesn't find it?Dann Corbit wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2019 5:36 am It's in the ChestUCI database as a mate in 82.
I can't find any program that will resolve it to show a winning score.

Amazingly Komodo 12.3 announces mate in 82 after 44 seconds on my relatively fast laptop (i9)! Note there wasn't any forward and backward analysis. I did a clean restart of the Shredder GUI.
Here's the output:

What am I missing? I don't see any way to force the black king off the c-file w/o dropping the d3 pawn (which appears to actually loose!)

Re: Mate in 82?
Hi Steve!
The default Probe Depht of 8 seems better here than e.g.1 as for Probe Limit 6, without tbs winning line arises quickly still, but #x takes some longer.
Yet you could have had a lucky run still, couldn't you? At my 12core- PC most of my trials got stuck with #94 or something like this, but were also always very fast.
Good find!
I knew komodo to be very well here, but unfortunately it seems, I never tried it with Syzygys loaded, because the mate is far away from such few men on boardSteve Maughan wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2019 4:39 pm Amazingly Komodo 12.3 announces mate in 82 after 44 seconds on my relatively fast laptop (i9)!
Good find!
Peter.

I don't know how to configure ChestUCI to both find distant mates and also give me a full pv.hgm wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2019 10:37 amChestUCI doesn't find it?Dann Corbit wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2019 5:36 am It's in the ChestUCI database as a mate in 82.
I can't find any program that will resolve it to show a winning score.
When I know that the mate is distant, I don't bother.
When I tell it to use the database, I get a useless response. Basically, it just says, "I found it." with no analysis.
When I tell it to use autoturbo it never seems to work on the long ones.
Perhaps I just don't know how to use it right. I also do not clearly understand the documentation for all the terms.
Now, I use Chest319 all the time (just modified it two days ago, in fact, to print out the EPD record when it is one of the mistakes it does not diagnose like "can beat the white king.") But that version would never solve checkmates in more than 12 unless you knew how to use the unusual parameters, and I don't know how to do it.
Eventually, I am going to write an AND/OR depth first proof search search using GPUs, but that is a project for when I retire, I think.
Taking ideas is not a vice, it is a virtue. We have another word for this. It is called learning.
But sharing ideas is an even greater virtue. We have another word for this. It is called teaching.
