I like Winboard/Xboard and cutechess-cli.
I use Arena for "test driving" and engine and for analysis, but not for tourneys.

I use Arena a lot for tournaments. May be buggy in some respects but for tournaments it is second to none. Well, you better browse the PGN's it creates and sometimes have to do some weeding but I think it is still worth the 'price'.

I like Arena, because after the tournaments it can stop the PC if I want. (Practice at night.)

Possible, nevertheless, it has some practical side, eg. we can change the composition of a tournament, without the restart.

Other GUIs can also do this.

I still remember whoami's exit from thief. 20 years for Arena. But seemingly under cut by competitors with fewer bugs.

Still it's a valuable app and i'd hope its owners would make an arrangement for download site. Don't assume it can be easily replaced by this or that other app. Many people liked it.

Maybe it's just money. Nobody wants to say they are are tired of paying a bill for a community that is less interesting to them at a given time.

To just stop is a natural human event. Stop paying the domain the hosting etc.

I see from the posts that the Chess - Analyze This author wrote in 2018 that he was quitting chess.

But now, Chess no longer interests me. I hardly play OTB events. I don't follow much of live games of my favorite players or events. And me playing online or studying Chess with a book has become as rare as a blood moon. Its usually a sign that its probably time to look for something different, something more exciting, something that solves a bigger problem! And really, there is so much that mankind needs!

And no other posts since.

It's a pity that the source code of Arena isn't available. I believe that it is a Delphi project.
