In the following game from a test, the King of Lc0 made a spectacular incursion into enemy territory, with queen, two rooks and two minor pieces present on the board. The risk of checkmate was diminished by two advanced pawns that caused poor coordination of enemy pieces.
The test was done with Balsa_Top25.pgn, Lc0.20.1 32367 RTX 2070 vs Stockfish 10 on 6 cores of i7 4790S, 15 minutes plus 3 sec.
In the position number 8 with SF10 playing White and Lc0 Black, after the best 8... h5, Lc0 played the pawn sacrifice 18...h4!
obtaining as compensation a strong attack on the kingside.

The incursion of the Black King to h4 seemed crazy with queen, two rooks and two minor pieces present on the board.
the entry in g3 and capture of the g2 pawn resulted in the collapse of the enemy position.

I ask myself though, what would have happened if SF wouldn't have 'lost nerves' with 62. Nxf5?!
There was no visible progress from 41...Kh4! to 61...Kh4, except that Black looks good of course,
but even LC0s score went back to the one 20 moves before.
75...a4! was another good move by LC0, but it seems SF played quite bad some of the next moves
may be also due to time management problems?

Pasting the pgn in Arena you can see the time left in every move. After 75...a4 Stockfish has 7 minutes 5 seconds left while Lc0 only 2:47, so I think it was not due to time management problems.
At the final position SF10 has 7:53 left while Lc0 has 3:18.

Then it seems Arena calculates wrong? I don't have it installed, but my check gives very different numbers.Javier Ros wrote: ↑Sun Jan 13, 2019 2:34 pmGuenther wrote: ↑Sun Jan 13, 2019 2:01 pm

75...a4! was another good move by LC0, but it seems SF played quite bad some of the next moves
may be also due to time management problems?
Pasting the pgn in Arena you can see the time left in every move. After 75...a4 Stockfish has 7 minutes 5 seconds left while Lc0 only 2:47, so I think it was not due to time management problems.
At the final position SF10 has 7:53 left while Lc0 has 3:18.
The tc says 15min+3 = 900+3. May be Arena is confused by the strange format output in tc
(sometimes s for seconds added sometimes not - two times corrected a space after the '.' in time)
Below is the output calculated by formulas including increment and total time from your raw pgn (just rounded two 2 digits for one 0.049s move).
After move 75 SF has just 34sec vs. 69s of LC0.

Re: Spectacular incursion of the King
The game was played under Cutechess gui 1.1 that adds "s" after the time.Guenther wrote: ↑Sun Jan 13, 2019 4:40 pmThen it seems Arena calculates wrong? I don't have it installed, but my check gives very different numbers.Javier Ros wrote: ↑Sun Jan 13, 2019 2:34 pmGuenther wrote: ↑Sun Jan 13, 2019 2:01 pm
Thanks for the interesting game Javier!
69s of LC0.

After eliminating all "s" and pasting into Arena, the times are the following
After 75...a4 Stockfish has 3:16 left while Lc0 only 2:47.
At the final position SF10 has 4:04 left while Lc0 has 3:18, it seems that Arena doesn't compute well.

I suspected that because I use cutechess and cutechess-cli tooJavier Ros wrote: ↑Sun Jan 13, 2019 5:19 pm
The game was played under Cutechess gui 1.1 that adds "s" after the time.
Well, Arena is still wrong, which I proved already in my post with data. I showed the exact curse of time...Javier Ros wrote: ↑Sun Jan 13, 2019 5:19 pm After eliminating all "s" and pasting into Arena, the times are the following
After 75...a4 Stockfish has 3:16 left while Lc0 only 2:47, so I think it was not due to time management problems.
At the final position SF10 has 4:04 left while Lc0 has 3:18.
(It is already impossible for LC0 to have more time in move 91 than in move 75, while using in average more than
the increment of 3s, same for SF)

Thanks for the detailed calculations.

Re: Spectacular incursion of the King
that’s really a great king march, very non-computer, but also not-human. thanks for postingJavier Ros wrote: ↑Sun Jan 13, 2019 1:39 pm In the following game from a test, the King of Lc0 made a spectacular incursion into enemy territory, with queen, two rooks and two minor pieces present on the board.
In the position number 8 with SF10 playing White and Lc0 Black, after the best 8... h5, Lc0 played the pawn sacrifice 18...h4!
obtaining as compensation a strong attack on the kingside.
the dangerous advance of the f and e pawns strangled the White position
The incursion of the Black King to h4 seemed crazy with queen, two rooks and two minor pieces present on the board.
the entry in g3 and capture of the g2 pawn resulted in the collapse of the enemy position.

It seems that Stockfish's failure to play 75. a4 loses the game.

Re: Spectacular incursion of the King
I want to mention that Stockfish also already had a remarkable fail low in move 26.
Here its score went down by 2.35! after 25. Rd2 and the unexpected reply 25...Kf7
despite investing 117 seconds for 26. Kf2.
