hi, i bought a used apple imac g4 for almost nothng and would like to do a little chess on it too.
i have seen there is an integrated chess program , but this does not fit my needs.
can some apple user help me getting a gui and uci engines for apple installed on the old imac g4 ?
i never really used an apple pc before.
ok i have an ipad but that is of course completely different.
i do have internet on the g4. i am not interested in ELO but in the fun level.
so what is possible on this old but cool designed machine from 2002 ??
The machine has 700 MHz and 1 GB RAM and Mac OS X 10.5.8

Chessmaster 9000, Sigmachess and Macchess are the ones that came to my mind first.
I think Hiarcs requires Mac OS X 10.7 as minimum. http://www.hiarcs.com/mac-chess-explorer.htm
Shredder needs 10.8 as minimum. https://www.shredderchess.com/chess-sof ... ntosh.html
Then there is the Stockfish: https://stockfishchess.org/mac/
Not a Mac owner but love it! Not sure about GUI + UCI engine combination though.

Is this a machine with Intel or with PowerPC? XBoard is available as an OSX App for Intel CPU.

The Hiarcs folks might be able to help you out if you have few bucks to spend.mclane wrote: ↑Wed Aug 15, 2018 11:18 am hi, i bought a used apple imac g4 for almost nothng and would like to do a little chess on it too.

I have and use an old ppc G4 and use the free version of Sigma chess 6.2. You can import ppc UCI versions of stockfish , glaurung , crafty & other engines. It is by far the best Mac ppc GUI and has a great interface & allows use of all UCI options with it's engine manager. Karger

Crafty is CECP (Winboard), not UCI. Do you mean the Sigma Chess GUI supports the Winboard protocol as well as UCI?
