Hello,

where can a download link for the source code of MCS-protocol be found?

I asked Millenium 2000 GmbH (> company that sells ChessGenius Exclusive computer) but my request was directly forwarded to David Levy and Andrew Keatley (Great Britain).

By the way: from Richard Lang I have got no answer in reference to this topic until today.

It would be interested to know which version of Richard Lang is indeed stronger :

It seems that no real interest exists to embed the MCS-protocol into a GUI like Shredder or WinBoard Interface. The reason could be: only very few chess engines support MCS.

CPW lists Shredder 3 and 4 as supporting engines, and Shredder 4 was 18 years ago. Besides, the GUI seems to be Windows-only, and then only 32 bit, and proprietary. No wonder that nobody cares about that protocol.

Shredder 5 started with UCI which has since taken over - and those who favour Winboard would have been even less inclined to switch over to MCS than to UCI.

Pity, better would be the GenToUCI adapter. Even limit 32bit in Win64 should not be such a problem.

You could ask the authors of the chess engines that supported MCS back then, they must have had some specification. SMK at least is still around and reachable.

However, I don't see why anyone would add MCS support into a GUI since the only engines requiring this are historical ones. Aart's CFA doesn't make sense here since Android didn't even exist when these engines were current, and no Android port of these closed course engines can be expected.

Shredder GUI is commercial, and there is no business case in putting man hours into MCS support. Arena is slow in development and even in bug fixing, so no new features can be expected. The only hope might be a MCS-to-WB adaptor for use with Winboard that someone could write - provided that there is a developer who cares about MCS.

I am reluctant to step into this discussion, but there seems to be some confusion. Please contact the right vendor for the right information. All my interactions with vendors have been pleasant and informative.

Also, Chess for Android does not support some older engine protocol, it supports connecting to the Millennium ChessGenius Exclusive electronic chess board over Bluetooth, using an upcoming module. Similarly, I have completed support to connect to DGT electronic chess boards over USB or Bluetooth. These are *not* engine protocols, but fun ways to connect to an external chess board for players that prefer the real pieces over a screen but still want to play strong engines.
